just found this site. very cool.
good morning from afghan land. i was following the stuff on jose harris, and one of the links led me here. i never knew this place existed.
i was a RIP failure in 95. was a 131 pound, 6 foot, 2 inch tall, skinny azz kid, with not enough intestinal fortitude. so i went off to the 82nd for a few years. hated that. so, i was planning on getting out, when the re up NCO told me he could get me back to RIP. so, i went back in feb 99, and was the James A Champion honor grad. and COL Stan McCrystal was the Reg Commander that presented it to me. very proud moment for me. i went to 1st Ranger Bn, HAAF, GA, and was stuck in HHC as an import. CSM Rakow made sure i was going to Ranger school, and passing, before i was going to get a job there. being a 22 year old, non tabbed, import from "the deuce" was no easy life for a few months in Regiment......i went to Ranger Class 8-99, and thankfully didnt recycle, because Mountain Phase nearly killed my southern Louisiana, swamp lander azz! i was in 3rd Plt, C Co, 1/75 from sept 1999, to sept, 2001. started off as a weapons squad Assistant Gunner, and then gunner. made e-5 in 2000, and went to the line, and was a rifle team leader for 3rd squad. i left after that to go with my Ranger buddy in the snipers. i was in the sniper section until jan 2002, when i got into a disagreement with a policeman in Savannah, GA...... oooops..... but i took my medicine, and shot off to SFAS, and have been a weapons sgt in 7th group ever since. currently a SOFMPC Canine handler, serving 4 th tour in afghan land.
people ask me all the time, what is better, Rangers or SF..... this is often a baited question...... and for everyone it is different. however, my answer is this: if i was offered a job as a e-5 team leader in Regiment, we would end this conversation, cut off my bottom rockers, and start packing right now, and be there for formation tomorrow morning......
