Will Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson make a back door move to ban lead bullets the day before the November 2 elections?

Several environmentalist groups led by the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) are petitioning the EPA to ban lead bullets and shot (as well as lead sinkers for fishing) under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Although EPA is barred by statute from controlling ammunition, CBD is seeking to work farther back along the manufacturing chain and have EPA ban the use of lead in bullets and shot because non-lead alternatives are available. But here's the catch: the alternatives to lead bullets are more expensive. A ban on the sale of lead ammunition would force hunters and sport shooters to buy non-lead ammunition that is often double the cost of traditional lead ammunition. A box of deer hunting bullets in a popular caliber could be upwards of $55.

What's the surprise? Well prior to the election many of us were on here screaming at the tops of our lungs "DON'T DO IT!"

I look at it like a criminal. You can have the best car alarm on the market, but if he really wants your car, he'll figure out a way to take it.

No different for gun owners. While I think the vast majority of gun owners are law abiding, God and Country loving people, I think they will find ways to stay armed/stocked up on ammo. Reloading, anyone?

The conspiracy nut in the back of my head thinks this is all being orchestrated by the gun industry. When slappy got elected, ammo prices went ballistic, guns became scarce, reloading supplies evaporated, and every militia nut in the world was running around like the sky was falling.

Fast forward 2 years, no bans, no outlawing ammo, and reloading supplies & ammo are still expensive as hell.

Yeah, but I am holding off final judgment until a new Congress is seated in January. I truly believe these bastards will try to ram all types of crap through during the "lame-duck" session.

On a local level here in NY, they have tried to sneak through a few additional changes (tagging ammo, handguns changes, etc.). But it's not working so far because the state is broke and has much bigger problems.

By the way, my experience has been that ammo prices are coming down since ol' slappy and his circus entourage was elected. I still have some XM193 that was bought at almost double the price of current market.
