The bar code is probably the closest to reality. Printed money is becoming more of a burden then ever for governments to manage. I imagine there will be some sort of debit card like system in place in the next 2-3 decades. This will make it a lot harder to buy weed.

Agreed. In addition to bar codes, eye scanners or even non-intrusive DNA samplers pressed against the skin or hair are being considered as adjuncts for a national ID card. It could serve many roles; it could be your driver's license, your social security card, your debit card, your credit card, your DOD ID card, your voter registration card, etc., etc. It would only be limited to the number of government and private institutions that become part of the central database. In spite of objections from privacy advocates, I'm all for it. It would eliminate a great deal of identity theft, bank fraud, and credit card fraud.
