Introduction

Post by chuck976 »

Rangers,

My name is Charlie (Chuck), I am 17 years old, and I am currently still in high school. After high school I plan on going to college and then enlisting in the Army with an 11X Option 40 contract. Becoming an Army Ranger has been a dream of mine since I was 8 years old, playing army in the backyard with my friends. While at college, I plan to train my ass off to be able to become a Ranger. I think with 4 years to prepare, I will be in damn good shape by then!

I would also like to say that I sincerely appreciate what you all have done for our country, and just hope that one day I can do the same as a Ranger.

Thanks Rangers,

Charlie

Welcome to the site. If you plan on going to college, have you considered doing ROTC?

Ranger Disinfertention,

I have thought about ROTC and I do not think that is the way I want to go, not at first at least. I have been told that being an officer, you do not get to choose what you want to do as much (like becoming a Ranger is easier if you enlist because they put officers where they want/need them, and I don't mean easier as in they treat officers nicer). Also, I have heard that if you enlist first and then go to OTC you will be more respected and have more experience. Correct me if I'm wrong. Finally, I would like to just go to college to go to college. I do not want to have to get up and do PT early for 4 years during my college, 5 days a week, and have exercises on the weekends. When I become a Ranger there will be plenty of time for that :D .

I want to go college and have a normal college experience. I plan on making the a career out of the Army and I don't know if I want those next 4 years to be surrounded by the Army too. Don't get me wrong, I want to be a Ranger more than anything in the world, I just don't know if I want to have my college years surrounded by them too.

Exercises on the weekends? We never did, except Cadet FTX was every fall and spring semester...Honestly ROTC now does not tie me down as much as you would think but its your choice, as a certain Ranger told me "so currently, were prior service PLs better than USMA/ROTC cadets. yes and no. and up to a certain point. as an LT, sure. as a CPT, they have caught up to the prior service guys."

Pretty much sums it up Sarnt' Major. Instant Gratification age. I'm gonna be an Airborne Ranger, I just don't want to work for it. Please just hand over all of the scare badges.

Ranger Bravo57, I in no way meant that I did not want to work to become a Ranger. I know that I will need to put in much more work in order to accomplish my dream. What I meant by my last post was that I wanted to stay focused on school while I was here. My plans have changed though, at this time I do not think that college is the right thing for me. After this academic year is over, I will be enlisting. I was wondering when I should contact a recruiter so that I can make sure that I get an 11X Opt. 40 contract?

Start talking with a recruiter ASAP and let him know when you want to ship.

Sorry Rangers but I do not know how to use the edit button (if there is one). Should I go to the recruiter nearest to my college (where I'm living until the end of the year) or the one nearest to my house?
