Vision Requirements
I have horrible eyesight (-8 in my right eye and -9 in my left). Will I be required to get vision correction or can I just wear glasses?

"Vision correction" is never "required", it is an elective surgery.

Re: Vision Requirements
Vision refraction is one area I've actually lost the gist off sicne moving on from recruiting. I seem to recall anything above -6 in each eye being a DQ (waviers authorized) but there is a top number that is a "no-shit" DQ. I will have to look around for that info and get back to you.King of Hearts wrote:I have horrible eyesight (-8 in my right eye and -9 in my left). If you do have LASIK (not PRK or anything else) you will have to wait 6 months before being able to process. All other eye surgeries are a DQ (NO Waivers).
Keep that in mind while I look for the other information.

Re: Vision Requirements
Hi, Back in the fall of 2004 my son went to Benning for OSUT,JUMP and RIP. He went to the 1st Ranger Bn at HAAF and is now finishing up Phase II of the Q course at Bragg. He has a very close friend from college that was going to join with him and follow the same path. His friends eyes were bad and he could not recieve an Option 40. So instead he became an Attorney and is currently Asst States Attorney of our neighboring county. soldiersdad

I know this thread is a little old, but I thought I'd share this for any others that would look at this thread in the future.
I almost got DQ'd for my eyesight, I wasn't going to settle for that.
So I demanded a retest for my eyes.
I ended up waiting an extra 2 hours for this retest, but it was worth it.
I passed, got my slot and walked out with what I wanted.
So what I'm trying to say is DON'T EVER GIVE UP, make sure you did everything in your power to get that contract. If you didn't and you leave MEPs with something you didn't want, you are going to regret it everyday of your life. Make sure you can't play the "what if i did this..." game. Ensure that every possible scenerio that could have got you that contract you wanted, you did.
My Recruiter played the "There aren't any Op40 slots available for at least a year, but there is a bonus for 11b infantry now" game.
I chose to wait the year.
Truth be told, I walked out of MEPs with that contract in hand not more than a month later.
Hold out. and except nothing less.

Corey
