Obama in Afghanistan

Post by rgrokelley »

I cannot confirm or deny this letter. Its floating around the internet. Take it for what it is:

Hello everyone,

As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to 'The War Zone'. I wanted to share with you what happened. He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.

As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the Clam Shell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.

So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you. I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from a Senator, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.

If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

In service,

I'm sure the list of military people allowed to be anywhere near him were pre-approved and hand selected.

I am sure you base that statement on years of experiance dealing with visiting politicians in a war zone. I only escorted 9 total in a year from both parties....the only selection criteria that I was instructed to use was to try to get people from the state they represented. How many have you done ?

I don't find this hard to believe at all. When I was at Eagle Base in Bosnia, President Clinton and Bob Dole came for a visit. Clinton acted the exact same way, completely ignoring the soldiers that had a rank of less than O6. He basically got off the plane and went straight to the head shed and when his meeting with the three star was over, he headed back to the airfield. Bob Dole on the other hand walked all over the place and visited with soldiers to include the soldiers at the gates on duty.

Most of the info I have comes from reading and SME's like yourself. One article in particular, that I based my statement on, referenced that at least one hard and fast criteria for Mr. Obama was that no person wearing traditional Muslim headgear would be seen or photographed near Obama at any of his political rallies. Other criteria was mentioned in that article as well, I will see what I can do about googleing that reference for you.

Exactly CSM, which was based on the original post in this thread about Obama only visiting a Major General and what appeared to be apparently only a select few other individuals. If he visited others besides the few on the basketball court/workout gym while on this trip I didn't gather that from the original post.

Puck, I hugely lack the experience compared to you on this but will say that when Slick Willie came to Benning there was a "process" that went to into selecting who sat where and why.

Having spent enough time in uniform to have seen the various political opportunists come and go, I saw several Presidents. Ford, he was professional and courteous. One Ranger in the ranks mumbled "Wolverines suck". (Ford was a Michigan grad I think.) Ford laughed and said, "we have a Buckeye in here?" It was my platoon that this comment came from and asses tightened when this was said but The President made it easy and fun, took the tension out. Carter was very friendly and enjoyed seeing the soldiers. Reagan was extremely friendly, shook everyones hand and actually gravitated to the lower enlisted. Asked questions, laughed easily and put everyone at ease. Clinton was a pompous dick and his wife a pompous non-dick. George (Dad) was very friendly, talkative, easy to talk to and laid back. One soldier when asked how it was going (Desert Storm) said "Sir, if you could change the uniforms to shorts, tank tops and flip flops Id vote for you again". Bush laughed and told the Commander next to him..."this man has a future". Several dozen Senators, Cogressmen and I couldnt tell you one of them because they were all self important fucktards who were there to be seen.

Obama is a shit stain. Nothing more. Maybe less.

NEVER saw a pre-rehearsal selection where soldiers were told they COULDNT attend though most would have rather been fucked by a Grizzley Bear than be at one of these events. As Puck stated, people from the home state were encouraged to go. Ive never seen the Army go too stupid on shit like this. People who were outright assholes and known to say stupid shit may have been eliminated from it but in general, it was never stated that if you were a Democrat or Republican you could or could not go.

That's a Chinn-tastic word. :P

On a side note, when Clinton came to Hawaii, the Secret Service sent out a message to have the bolts removed from all weapons for the pass and review ceremony. We had to form up over an hour early in order for them to spot check the formation of the entire 25th ID prior to us marching up to the flight line where the ceremony was held.

Thats anytime a President is in front of troops. It is SOP. During division review a month ago the Seacret Service did the same thing. the POTUS was coming so all bolts out.....and no pocket knives ....and go through a metal detector....2 hours early.

The first time I ever marched in front of Reagan......Guess what they did the same thing. except he HAD been shot so they were real pricks about it.

Its the SOP
