Hi, My son graduated a four year college then decided to join the Army. He didn't want to be anything but an Airborne Ranger. He could have went directly to OCS and then took his chances on evintually getting into Ranger Bn. But the only thing that guranteed him Ranger Bn was enlistment with an Option 40 contract and his being able to get himself to RIP graduation. As many DEPS find out an Option 40 is by no means a gurantee to becoming a Ranger. I read on military boards where parents say my son is going to become a Ranger and this is going to _______. The large % never make it to Ranger Bn. If you want it DO IT. Don't do what your recruiter wants you to do. Then when you don't make it you have no one to blame but yourself.

Being a Ranger is not for everyone and most who enlist with an Option 40 contract never make it becasue it is meant to be that way. If you want to learn a trade by taking advantage of technical schooling the Army offers, go for it. Later you can always answer the question about what you did in the Army by saying you could have been a Ranger, but...(insert your reason here).
WE NEED MORE RANGERS!

I don't know if he was trying to BS you, but most recruiters are not combat arms sergeants. Men do what they understand and he may have been a soft skills support type who saw you as a talented candidate for computer technicial. If you truly want to serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment, demand an Option 40.xCalebx wrote:KW Driver wrote:go do something else. don't waste your time or a slot.

The purpose of this post was not to doubt my decision. I was just wondering if anyone thought he may have been bullshitting me or something. I am going to treat this post as constructive criticism to make me work that much harder. I am very determined and incredibly motivated.

I don't presume to speak for anyone here but myself, so all I can say is much along the lines of what some of the Rangers here have said.
If you really want it, then go for it and don't let a recruiter push you into a MOS that he needs to fill or thinks you might want.
When you get to MEPS and speak with a career counselour, tell him that you want an Option 40 in your contract and if they give you any shit about it not being avaliable, be prepared to walk.
Nine times out of ten, this will get you what you're going for.
