Around the Northern Virginia suburbs, you are looking at paying around $50 - $75 an hour for a house call.

Damn, I should go back to turning wrenches. I was happier doing that anyways!

It was a discussion at work on how expensive labor is these days and I made a point on that it depends on what part of the U.S. your in. It looks like I was correct again.

Thanks.

But just in case how much does it cost to become a plumber?

Depends.

For most there is an apprenticeship process that can last 3-4 years.

There are also osme training run by local unions.

Sometimes the VA or local workforce center can cover some of the costs involved.

You gotta specify, there is a big difference between how much a plumber makes an hour, and how much the company he works for charges an hour. My wife worked for a plumbing company and they paid between 15-20 an hour to the plumbers, but charged much more then that for an hours work.
