Veteran, non-ranger, intro
Basic was at Ft. Bliss, Co. C 56th ADA in 1987-88.
AIT at Ft. Sam Houston, Co. D 232nd Med Bn in 1988.
Two years active as a 91A Combat Medic.
In 1991 I wanted in on the party so I opted out of the IRR and joined the Army Reserve General Hospital based out of Ft Ben Harrison. They decided in their wisdom decided to retrain me as a 91E Dental Tech.
In 1993 I was bored and pretty tired of the crap going on in that unit, officers qualifying with their weapon without even seeing a range for example, so I talked to the boys at the Indiana National Guard. They slotted me in to Co. D Heavy Maintenance Bn as a 44B Heavy armour welder, but never sent me to school. I spent all my drills playing medic with all the accidents that went on out at Stout Field with members of my unit.
In 1994 they decided I should be an officer and with the help of our PERSSGT, a USMC Vietnam Vet by the name of Fritz, I was sent to INARNG OCS at Camp Atterbury. Where in the late fall during a run I had a "transient ischemic cerebral event" aka a migraine that came on like a clap of thunder and rendered the entire left side of my body unresponsive. I was kicked out of OCS and the INARNG with an Honorable Discharge in May of 1995.
I haven't had a migraine now in over 7 years and with the recent change in age limits I am trying to get back in the employ of the US Army on active duty. I'll need a waiver but I am in the hunt. My younger brother, 33, has just signed his contract. He leaves for Ft Benning March 22, Airborne Infantry Ranger in the contract. With any luck I'll be following him shortly... just without the Ranger tab. I have the utmost respect for you guys but at 38 I know my limits. 11B, Airborne is enough for me.
I'm married to an Indonesian woman far too good looking to be stuck with the likes of me and we have a boy who turns one this month. We live OCONUS where I work for an international high school as a teacher and guidance counselor.
I'll shut my long winded trap now before the rest of y'all fall asleep who haven't already. Thanks for letting me in the door.

Angry, I graduated August 88 from the 91A course. Was Captain Panerio the CO still when you went through... he wore a Ranger tab. Fair man. I hated that friggin XO though, don't remember his name but he was a walking hard on.
RTO, thank you. And thanks to all of you busting my lil brother's balls into shape. I guided him here just for that very purpose. At 33 it takes a little getting used to the abuse he's gonna weather in the very near future.
To be clear, I see my title says I'm in the DEP and right now I am NOT.
I am working on the waiver to get into the DEP and go active. I have an utter fucking hatred for posers and god forbid I end up some accidental wannabe.
