Should have went to batt when I had the chance...

Post by AES750 »

Id like to say hey to the Ranger community and ask a few questions. Im currently at the 173rd ABN in Italy and want into Ranger batt, BAD. Ive been there since April, and my TIS is about 14 months. I thought the 173rd was going to still have LRS when I got there but they have disbanned and am not the most hi-speed motherfucker around but I expected a LOT more than what I've got. My question is can I do ANYTHING to go to any Ranger Batt? Once overseas you have to serve 2 years I think but I know some people who have went SF without being there 2 years and was thinking since Rangers are part of SOCOM that it might fall under the same guidelines, anyone know (kind of like selection)? Ive been told to just go to Ranger school and reenlist for it but Im using that as a last resort. After talkin to the guys that have been in a Ranger Battalion I should have taken the advantage when I was in ABN school, but I didn't and have regreted it since. Any info is appreciated.oh, GO COLTS.

Just out of curiousity, why would you reserve this as a last resort, if it was a viable option?

Take advantage of being OCONUS & get the most out of the unit you're in.
It's better than legland (like I needed to say that), anyway, be the best paratrooper you can be & master the craft. Even the chickenshit, just get to be better at it than the next man.
Army regs cover the 'how to get to RIP/ROP.
Since you'll be an "import" spc or NCO when/if you arrive, you need to be better to be thought of as almost as good.
Everything you need to know about preparing for RIP is already in a forum hereabouts.
Now go PT & in between reps, learn the Ranger Handbook inside & out, forward & backward. More importantly, learn how to APPLY it, as well as the relevant FMs & weapon/radio TMs.

It was a last resort because it takes the longest, my reenlistment window isnt going to be here before deployment and I was looking for a quicker way in. If I have to get my tab and then go so be it. I was just seeing if there was a way to go now.
and McD there are a lot of good people there, i didnt say there wasnt I was just thinking it would be different.

How about this drippy dick! Why don't you try and do your job as an Airborne Infantryman, before you go all highspeed. I think the reason for your change of heart might have something to do with an imminent deployment.

I shouldn't have been so harsh, send me your name and rank and I'll square you away.

I wasn't saying anything bad about the 173rd nor would I say anything bad about anyone serving our country. My comment was a sarcastic dig at one of our members here.
