Welcome to you and your rambling statement. Dont take offense...my wife does that crap, too.
Im going to answer some of your questions from the gopel according to Brother Pastor William.
First, The Guard typically has the Combat units, Infantry, Mech, Armor, CEB's, etc...
When you enlist in the Guard (or Reserve) you incurr a 6 year obligation which common sense says can be exited to go Active. Not always the case. The Guard has to release the person before he can go AD. Guard units have a tough time keeping strength (numbers) up so they do know how to drag their feet on these requests. If you think Active Duty Recruiters are vultures, wait till you see the Guard Recruiters. Hint, check before you do it.
If Guard or Reserve is in your future, I wouldnt place bets on being a Ranger. The other way to do this is, go active first then to college. Maturity level is better, women think you are a stud, and you are better prepared to go to school. For what it's worth...and good luck. BY the way, those States that offer tuition paid through the Guard are many and you can use both GI BIll and tuition pay from Guard. Good luck
