Most Memorable Novel You've Ever Read?

Righ now I would have to say Atlas Shrugged because I see a lot of similar struggles going on in our world today as the ones that Ayn Rand was writing about. It is ranked as one of the most influential books ever written behind the bible. If you have never read it I recommend it. I read it this year so it is still fresh in my mind.

The Fountainhead is equally relevant. In the movie, Gary Cooper represents a free market, free thinking society where individual accomplishment is always at war with the mass of mediocrity that demands conformity (communism). Ayn Rand was one of the greatest voices of conservatism and capitalism who ever lived. She's no less correct in her assumptions as they've turned out today, than she was 60 years ago.Rugger wrote:Righ now I would have to say Atlas Shrugged because I see a lot of similar struggles going on in our world today as the ones that Ayn Rand was writing about. Lord of the Rings would be number one with me. Probably read it at least 15 times in the last 30 years. Close second is the series of books by Patrick O'Brien, which started with Master and Commander. That guys knows his British Navy stuff cold.

Anthem, Atlas Shrugged (Ayn Rand)
Stranger in a Strange Land, Starship Troopers (Heinlein)
Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit (Tolkein)
and Last Defender of Camelot (Zelazny) is probably one of the best collections of short stories ever printed.

The library on Eskan(sp?) Village, Riyadh had almost the whole series, sitting on a back shelf collecting dust. I re-read them and returned them to the library.
I should have stolen them...
Also on my favorite list is:

All HPL, and most Clive Barker (even if he is a pole-smoker).

This guy is going to be dead if someone coins him and he doesn't have that. What were you thinking Ranger Hobbit?hobbit wrote:I appropriated this from an NVA lieutenant colonel who no longer had any need of it.
