What kind of unit is the French Foreign Legion? Is it all special operations, or is it like an entire branch such as the Army or the Marine Corps? How hard would it be for an American to join and what would be the benefits of joining?

The FFL is....ah fuck it. If ya wanna do nothing but soldier, look into it. Most of those guys are pros. They do it all from within their own ranks. The job is hard, the punishment is harder. If yer running from the law, change yer name and join the Legion. If ya hate women and wanna stay away from em and hurt yerself, join the Legion.

Why the hell ya ask a question like that in here? Go find the Legion website and bother them. If ya wanna drop out of life and do nothing but soldier, join the Legion.

I have been to that site Ranger Bell, but I am having some trouble understanding whether this is Special Operations Force like the Rangers or if it is a whole branch. It says it is small (like 6 or 7 thousand men) and it is tough training but they also mention being a cook or mechanic so I am confused. Sorry for bothering you with some of my quesions. Thanks again for the information.

Seeing as your on a Ranger website, you're probably not going to find a whole lot of veteran's of the French Foreign Legion. I for one don't know a goddamn thing about them.

You didn't read my previous post did ya. I gave several explanations why people join the FFL. Some are honorable. Some are not. The FFL has been known not to care one way or the other. It's a long enlistment when you join and it's hard. Go surf the FFL sites and leave us alone.
