An American contractor stationed in Iraq for defense firm Lockheed Martin has died after it is believed he was assaulted by members of the United States military.
Rick Rodriguez, a former Army Green Beret who served with the military for 20 years, was removed from life support at a hospital in Germany on Friday - a decision made by his family.
His wife and four children were flown by the military from their home in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Germany after Rodriguez was transferred from Iraq to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a relative told The Daily Beast.
Numerous sources told the news site that Rodriguez was severely injured during a brawl with U.S. Marines.
Military sources said that investigators are focusing their attention on two gunnery sergeants who are believed to be persons of interest in Rodriguez’s death.
