Roger Ranger Disinfertention. I look up to every Ranger on this site so if any of you guys say “Jump!” I will say “How high?” Thanks for the good luck.
Quick update Rangers, I am going to the recruiters' office after school today to decide on what jobs are available before MEPS. Hopefully there is a beautiful 11x OPT 40 waiting for me but from what my recruiter said, there are no guarantees right now.

Remember to wait. There is a high chance they will try to get you to pick a different job, maybe even one with an OPT40 contract. The only way you can be sure you will get a 11x OPT40 is to sign up for that specific job. Everything else is rolling the dice.
They offered me a lot of intelligence jobs and repair jobs and an IT specialist job, all support jobs and then they had one available OPT 40, but it was a 92g and I am set on an 11x OPT 40. I leave for MEPS on Wednesday at 1000. Ready for the underwear olympics.
Congrats on your opt 40, Nico14. Good luck on Wednesday.

Stay focused. This time of year, shortly after the fiscal year, you may end up waiting until summer for 11X OPT 40. Be ready for that... They will pressure you to enlist. This administration has set a high number for active duty new enlistments this year. It will be hard on recruiters to watch you wait for what you want. Tell them it is your career and your choice. Don't let them guilt you into shit.
Roger Ranger Disinfertention. They pressured me pretty hard at the hotel. I was in a room with some of the guys and then a recruiter from the 101st came in and locked in a job for some kid. I asked him about combat MOS jobs for pre-grads and he said not to hold out for an OPT 40 because they may never happen. He also said that in every basic training class they have a time where people sign a paper to go to airborne school (which from what I’ve read and heard is not true) and that I could easily get Ranger School right after basic to become a memeber of the 75th Ranger Regiment. So I nodded my head and was respectful, but he was just not educated on what the OPT 40 even is. Kinda bothered me, but oh well. Gonna hold out for what I want IN WRITING.
That's the right answer. No one said it was going to be easy. For some folks this part is the hardest part of the adventure...
There is a specific quota for them to fill with OPT 4 (Jump school) and OPT40 (RASP) and it gets updated throughout the year... or they release them at specific times. I'm not a recruiter, just know that "it may never happen" is not true at all. I don't know of a single person who was on this site who waited that never got one.
Plenty of time to be patient then, Nico. Focus on getting fit, schoolwork, and having fun. Once you enlist there will be plenty of time to prep for the military through other means.
Remember this too Nico- this is one point in your military career where YOU hold all the cards and have ALL the leverage. Recruiters played games when I was in the process of enlisting, and they are still doing it today. Nothing against them, they have a job to do and are trying to juggle enlistees to meet quotas, make their superiors happy and earn bonuses like long weekends off etc. If you can't get what you want, talk to a different recruiter in a different office, or let your present recruiter know you are going in to talk to one of the other services. Suddenly, stuff may happen.
Roger Ranger Disinfertention, I have nothing but time to better myself both mentally and physically. I work about 35 hours a week and school plus trying to get physically fit enough for the Army, so I have pretty limited time for fun. Working out is always fun though.
Roger Ranger IntelToad, I pulled the ‘I’m going to stop into the other recruiters’ offices to get info’ move and my recruiter seemed a little more willing to get the process rolling with me afterwards, go figure. I appreciate the advice Ranger IntelToad.
