Re: Introduction- Kevin
Ranger Grim666,
Are there any medical books you recommend I could buy to get a head start on familiarizing myself with some of the more detailed information? I am already familiar with anatomy and physiology of the body, not so much when it comes to actual medical care. I am also unaware of how much combat medicine differs from civilian.

And by the difference in the two, I am referring to how much classroom time there is compared to if it is mostly hands on learning. I understand combat medics deal with combat wounds and clinical as well.

Do you have any civilian medical experience? Just trying to gauge what arena of books to send you into.

Re: Introduction- Kevin
Ranger Grim666,
I have taken a semester long cpr/first responder class so I am familiar with basic first response. But I am eager to learn, even if the books may be out of my league at the moment. Also, I have taken classes in anatomy and physiology, neuromuscular physiology, and clinical exercise physiology, if that helps guage my level a little more.

Re: Introduction- Kevin
I will start you with an EMT Basic book. This is not meant to insult your intelligence simply like I said to give you a foundation. This is also what you would need to pass at AIT if you choose to go the medic route.
http://www.amazon.com/Emergency-Care-Tr ... =EMT+Basic
Here is the one on Amazon but you can find it many places. This is the one they use at AIT (or did when I went through but the guys coming to me now still have it). You can certainly get a used one, while you may not the info on the CD most of what you want is in the book. Learn the nonsense in the beginning but don't go crazy over it. Things like the types of ambulances and legaleze you need to know for the test but go out the window once you pass it. The rest of the medical and trauma sections give you a very good BASIC foundation from which to grow. If you get through that which at your level should not be hard I can pass along some more advanced books. A basic med math book unless you already know it from the classes you have done like doing drip rates, med doses, and coverting units. If you like all that stuff and want to learn more again hit me up and we can keep going up the chain.

Re: Introduction- Kevin
Ranger Grim666,
I will definitely be purchasing the EMT book in the near future. It would be ignorant not to get a head start on the book they still are using. As for the med math, that is new information for me and I look forward to moving on to it after the EMT book. Thank you for the insight!

Re: Introduction- Kevin
Rangers,
I have an update on the enlistment process. I went to the recruiter today, took the screening test (scored a 74), and am finishing the background check packet. That is the last form I have to complete. Since I missed my window of spring break, I will be going to MEPS soon after finals this semester, which is around May 5th.

For todays FOG blast from the past, that is an updated version of the same book I used in 1980.

Ranger Jim,
As of right now, I am just waiting for the doctor that performed a tooth surgery, when I was 16, to return from vacation so he can state everything went well. I will post new pt scores Monday.

Re: Introduction- Kevin
Ranger Jim,
I have been taking finals all week and I will be glad when my last, but hardest one, will be over Monday. So far, I will be meeting with my recruiter May 5th to turn in all of my papers and for him to set me up with a MEPS date shortly after. I am excited to get this stepping stone finished and move on to the next!

Ranger Jim,
My recruiter had a ceremony he had to attend so we moved the meeting to Tuesday the 10th. I know things have been postponed a few times but this should be the last!
