When did it become uncool to be proud of our country and society?

Re: Random thought of the moment.
I heard it's real nice, have seen some pictures of the new memorials and such, but not an overlook of the compound in total. I haven't been back there for 20+ yrs., is it even in the same area still or completely different location? I was kind of a smartass kid (big surprise), not in a disrespectful way, just always trying to have fun and spent quite a bit of time on Noble Hill digging reverse slope anti-tank positions and whatever else my SSG could think of, he was quick to point and yell "Dig!!" haha, got one MRE a day and a canteen of water over the fence every hour. I called it the underground Hilton and at one point was trying to rent a Bobcat overnight once when my etool broke, but figured my sense of humor already got me 7 days on the Hill so I had to tone it down a bit or he would've literally murdered me up there and buried my bones.rangerjd wrote:No truer statement has ever been make. You could always tell when someone was in trouble if you were coming home late and walking in the back door and heard the "ting! ting! ting!" of some young Rangers etool hitting bedrock up there. We'd laugh and feel pity because we knew it sucked, we've all been there, and would usually bring him more water or gaterade and toss him some pogy bait and Cope over the fence to help out, but if we got caught digging with anybody we'd be fucked. Taking care of him was quietly allowed and expected, but digging for someone was a big nogo.
Great times anyway, got a little off track there thinking back on it.

C CO, 2nd PLT spent an entire 4 day digging up there in '93. Can't remember why but they pissed of Big Jack Smith.I heard it's real nice, have seen some pictures of the new memorials and such, but not an overlook of the compound in total. New compound is beautiful. My buddy is the 1SG for a Reserve EN Construction CO building an extension on Noble Hill and surrounding area. Running path, new moc ups, private range not controlled by Range Control (thank God) and entirely separated and restricted from the rest of JBLM.

Re: Random thought of the moment.
The entire area is completely different. I just finished up a 2 week job on Ft Lewis and I drove by to see it again, it is truly amazing and worth the trip. The best way to see it if you can't be here is on google maps, select satellite view and then zoom in over the Battalion area. You won't recognize it, but you'll know it is the Battalion area because you can see the memorial when you zoom in. 2nd Bat scroll and 2nd Bat diamond. Find Gray Army Airfield, look to the south end and then scan east. The whole area from GAAF to the rifle ranges is now the 2nd Bat AO. If you look you'll see a perimeter road around Noble Hill. That whole area is fenced off and off limits to anyone not in Bat. If you look close you can see the perimeter fence that runs all around Battalion area. It's at least 4 times the size that it was in the 90s.

My how times have changed....practically had to compete for "Noble Hill" where I got my "Cherry Rock" (which I still have...."Arnold") and "Weenes Pond".
Of course, the other fella's from North Fort can say the same, I guess.

Re: Random thought of the moment.
So hh6 is at a conference down in Detroit, which means me and the kid. Just a wee bit of dad time w my stud.
So dinner was a lb of bbq beef brisket and some Mac and cheese yum, hockey on, good beer, gave him a bath, read about 12 books in the the dark, finally asleep and got him tucked in...
Thought....fuck I am tired.
