As the father of a daughter who went through Special Ed, I have nothing but praise and admiration for those who choose to work with Special Ed youth. Some of those who helped my daughter were nothing short of saints when I observed them doing their work.
Today my daughter is in an adult group home and attends a day program where the same caliber of people work with her.
A tip of the Lefty beret to you for choosing to do this very special work. God Bless You - He has a special place for you and all those in your line of work.

Re: Look at Teaching
Congratulations and may God bless you in your efforts.
My brother-in-law, who lives with us, was less than three months old when he had a serious illness. The doctors predicted he would not live past his first birthday and if he did he probably would not be able to talk or comprehend what was going on around him. He is now fifty-three, graduated from high school and helps me care for his sister. Yes he requires a certain amount of care himself but I have never known a more pure spirit. Special needs instructors, teachers and care givers are all at the top of my list of Special People.

Re: Look at Teaching
I just saw this post, congratulations on getting the job. My wife is a Special Education Teacher and she loves her job. She loves the middle schoolers that she teaches, triumphs, head aches and all. It takes a special person, with a special heart to do what she does. She working on her Masters Degree right now, and continuing to work full time (and I thought I was tough). Thanks for being willing to help those that need the help. Once again, congrats!!!!!! :DManchuV wrote:I GOT THE JOB!!
I just got the call today. I am ecstatic.
I am now a Special Education Assistant Instructor at my local HS here in San Antonio. I worked hard and long, and I am not finished yet. I am just one step away from getting my MED, and being a Special Education Teacher.
While pursuing this quest, I notice that there were a lot of jobs advertising for teachers; all kind of teachers. No it is not a hooah (jumping out of jets, fast roping out of helicopters, and...) job, but it is hooah when your influence inspires a kid to graduate, and then onto college, and in my case, to teach just basic life skills (taking care of themselves) is a big reward. To see that kid who did not know how to put their shoes on, and then they are putting their shoes on is a reward. "I taught that kid" is what comes to mind. I've looked at this for a long time because I never liked how disadvantage kids and kids with special needs are treated like they are second class citizens.
If all of this don't sound right, it is because I am so happy about getting this job; this is my chance to help those who need it.

Re: Look at Teaching
Most of my wife's kids are high functioning with ADHD, Autism, Asperger, and a multitude of other problems. I admire anyone who gets into this field. If your kids are anything like her's some of these kids just need an adult that cares about them and that they can look up to. I wish there were more good people like you to step up and work with these kids. On a side note, my wife has a sign in her office her at home that says "Three best reasons for Teaching, June, July, and August.'
