Intro- Patrick

Post by onceanartist »

Hi all,

My name is Patrick. I am 19 and currently a freshman at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio. I've come to realize college isn't for me, and a bit to expensive for what I'm getting out of it. So I'm looking into a few of the options I was before college, one of them being enlisting with an Option 40. That said, I would like to see about taking art with me to the Ranger Regiment as a combat photographer. I've already run several searches but come up empty, both on here and on the web. All I have found a lot of info on regular Army photographers, so far. Is it similar to the process for if I was going to be assigned to a regular infantry unit?

I also want to make sure I understand the information on here 100%. I have a blue/purple color vision deficiency, it was diagnosed by a civilian eye doctor a few years back. I am able to correctly identify red/green however and that is what the Regiment tests for, correct?

My PT scores are as follows:
Push-ups: 56
Sit-ups: 81
2-Mile: 19:23 (Very embarrassing, I had a bad case of shin splints and just started running again.)

One last question, when selecting an avatar there are 4 categories, "DEPs, flags, insignia, and tactical." Which is the correct category for a newt?

Thank you for your time, Rangers.

Thank you Ranger CharlieRanger1FFV!

Ranger Jim, thank you and yes Sir I do want a place in the 75th Ranger Regiment. I have a lot of room for improvement on PT scores, I recently stepped up my workouts and will continue to get better. My goal is to be running a 13 minute 2-miler by the end of this semester. I have also been reading the physical training threads, especially Ranger Silverback's, and getting a lot of useful information.

OK, ensure your recruiter understands that you want 11X Option 40. You will take some tests to ensure that you qualify. Never, never quit!

A suggestion - when meeting with a recruiter, your primary mission is to obtain the Option 40. Do not even mention this photography stuff, it will divert everyone's attention away from your primary mission. You need to read. read, read, and read some more about what Rangers do.

You may think some of the comments here harsh, but this is the nicest anyone is going to be to you before you ship out for Basic.

Roger Ranger Lefty, I will make sure the recruiter knows I only want an 11x Option 40. I have been reading the forums and as many other sources as I can get my hands on. Roger again and thank you.

Bronco, thanks for the welcome.

Ranger Jim, my recruiter visit went very well. I have nothing that will disqualify me. I also took a practice ASVAB test and scored a 70. The recruiters want me to take the actual ASVAB in a few weeks. I'm going to study in the mean time so I'm prepared even better for it. I also made it very clear I wanted a Ranger Contract and don't see a problem in getting one. At this point I'm looking at shipping a month or so after this semester ends, depending on when I get my contract.
