Training Advice
Hello all. I am new to the site and would like to ask for some advice. Before I begin here is a little background information on myself.
I am currently a cadet 1st Lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol and an A1C in AFJROTC. I have been in Civil Air Patrol for almost four years. In that time span I have been trained in the professions of Personnel Recovery, Search and Rescue, survival and aviation. I have been to National drill competition, state level color guard competition, staffed at numerouse SAR schools, been on numerous SAR missions, etc.
Just recently I graduated from the Pararescue Orientation Course at Kirtland AFB in New Mexico. The course is designed to introduce CAP cadets to the mission of the pararescuemen as well as provide training in wilderness survival, land navigation, repelling, knots, and physical fitness. The instructors for the course were active duty Pararescuemen and SERE Specialists. Between PT and physical labor I burned 7,000 to 10,000 calories a day while there. I lost 6 pounds over the course of the 8 days I was there. I then went straight to Stead training base up in Reno as an instructor for CAP's basic training. Also if it matters for anything I have taken a total of 5 years of training through several martial arts and have been taking Mandarin at school.
My question to all current/ prior Rangers out there is, based off what you have read, what can I can do/ continue doing to best prepare myself to one day be a part of the Ranger community. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Here's something you can do. Use the fucking search button. Did you even read a damn thing on these forums before you decided to brag about your many exploits in this intro? I figured-fucking-not.CAPCADET469702 wrote:My question to all current/ prior Rangers out there is, based off what you have read, what can I can do/ continue doing to best prepare myself to one day be a part of the Ranger community. Re: Training Advice
I apologize for any violations I may have made to forum rules. I had read a few intro posts before hand to try and see the style of format every one was using. I have now gone back and looked at a couple more to see where I could have gone wrong. I see that I did not actually use the word intro in my title and I may have said a little too much in my intro.
It was not my intention to brag or show off. Trying to brag to a Ranger or any one in SOCOM probably isn't the best of ideas. Honestly I was just trying to give a detailed background of myself so I don't cheat myself out of any possible advice. Once again I apologize for any head aches and thank you for your time.

Everyone who has the honorific Ranger on their screen name has been verified as having served in the Ranger Regiment or is a graduate of the Ranger Course. Most of the questions you might have are addressed at least once. As Ranger SLEDGEHAMMER, mentioned, the search feature, located on the top right of this page is your friend. Tell us more about yourself, if you are in JROTC, you are still in HS. How old are you? Where do you live? What are your goals? Please self-conduct a PT test and post your results on this thread within the next 72 hours. We are the quiet professionals.

Re: Training Advice
I see Ranger Jim beat me to most of what I'm about to post but I'll do it non-the-less:
Let me throw you a bone.
Lesson #1 hero: No one in the military, or here for that matter, gives a shit about why you did something retarded or what your thought process was whilst doing it. All that is expected and required is that you understand where you went wrong and simply acknowledge your shortcoming and respond with a "Roger, ..." .
You expect us to give you advice, but can't even give us the common courtesy to read the first section of the forums titled "Board FAQ." This goes hand in hand with lesson number 2.
#2: This forum isn't here for you. Read the slogan: "For Rangers By Rangers". Everyone else is only here out of good graces and the innate leadership nature of Rangers wanting to see others succeed and helping to do so. This site takes great pride in seeing young whipper-snappers pass through here on there way to the Regiment. Every person with the Ranger title has 'been there, done that.' Using that experience, several Rangers take great strides, both on this site and in real life, to help those that really want it and show that they are willing to at the very least, give 110%.
There is no question with regards to the Army and especially Regiment rattling around in your head that hasn't been asked before in the decade plus these forums have been here. But by God if you search until your fingers bleed and you still can't seem to find the nugget you're looking for, ask and you'll be squared away before the page refreshes.
Now...hit the fucking woodline.

Re: Training Advice
Thank you for the welcome Ranger Jim. I am going into my Sophmore year of HS and am currently 15. I did the APFT about a week before leaving for Pararescue ( So mid June ) and here were my scores:
Push-ups: 71
Sit ups: 82
2 Mile run: 13:35
Running has always been my weak suit. I run and do a lot if cardio and can handle lond distance runs but my fastest mile to date has only been 6:19. I have not had the opportunity to perform a 5 mile run (timed that is) but hopefully can attempt on the track when the school year kicks back up.
Some short term goals I have ( within the next year) are:
* Get my personal policy's license
*Graduate the Advanced Pararescue Orientation Course
*Graduate National Blue Beret
*Decrease my mile by a minute
*Increase my 2 minute push-up / sit-up count by at least 10
Long term goals are:
*Do an advanced enlistment at E-3 with an 11X contract
*Become a Ranger Medical Specialist (Please correct me if that's the wrong terminology for the Medic Option for an 11X)
* Eventually get my bachelors or higher throughout my career
*POSSIBLY cross over to SF and go SF Medical Sergeant later in my career.
* POSSIBLY go to OCS if I am givin the opportunity and that is where I am needed
Trust me when I say this. I am in NO WAY one of those guys trying to use becoming a Ranger as a step stool to get into SF. It's just a possibility I see. Once again any and all advice is greatly appreciated and thank you for your time.
PS: Reading SledgeHammers post now. Rodger and thank you.

Re: Training Advice
Well if I wanted to go straight into Special Forces I couldn't. I mean, yes you can enlist directly into SF but you must be 21 or older. Ill be enlisting straight out of highschool ( or at least that's the plan) so I wouldn't be eligible.

Edit: Ranger Sledge Hammer, from what I understand you can't go directly into SF. I mean, yes you can enlist directly into Special Forces but you must be 21 or older. I plan to enlist straight out of high school and would not be eligible.
( Forgot to address you as Ranger. Didn't mean any disrespect.)

Age 15 is not the age permitted to post on this site. YOU MUST BE 16 - it's in our FAQ.excerpt of CAPCADET469702 wrote:Thank you for the welcome Ranger Jim. I am going into my Sophmore year of HS and am currently 15.
You have not yet followed instruction before posting. You did not put intro in your title because you originally posted this topic in our Mosh Pit but I saw the error & moved your post here to intro area. On this site you are expected to make your 1st post an introduction but you did not bother to do so.
Now I am going to do something you may not like - I'm telling you not to post again until 4 weeks beyond your 16th birthday. If you post again before that time I will ban you.
