This is true. We are armed. However the way to control that is make the people turn them in themselves. Though not as large a proliferation you can look to other nations that have had a large percentage of their population armed, and then got the people to turn in the weapons themselves. Nations such as Britain, Australia, Germany, and Canada stand out. Once you get the law abiding, peace loving, people to turn in their guns, then it isn't that hard to round up the few who will not turn them in. If you dont' turn them in, they will be found eventually. You try to target shoot... your neighbors hear the sound and turn you in. You use the gun to defend yourself... you now become public enemy number one and are portrayed in the media as some sort of racist nutjob who deserved to be thrown in jail for life.

It can be done because it has been done. Vigilance is the only answer. Do not let the government gain one inch politically. I don't know what the NRA is going to say on Friday in their press conference, but it better be "we are all for arming more people and are not for disarming anyone! If you don't like that go fuck yourself"
