Sitrep - Affirm369

Postby Affirm369 » June 22nd, 2012, 9:33 am

Rangers,

I have just received my 36 hour mid-cycle pass from OSUT. I am here to report a summary of some of my experiences so far, as well as help to inspire some of the future soldiers who may be reading this thread.

I am honored to say I was placed in an 11C Indirect Fire Company for OSUT. I also am pleased to report that I ran into a few people from these forums in both 30th AG and OSUT. One of which is Ryantyler from my mentor group. We are in the same company, and even though we are separated into different platoons he has been my battle buddy from the start. We have been watching each other's backs since the start and will continue to do so. He is a highly motivated stud and I am pleased to continue the mission with him.

OSUT has been extremely easy so far, as many before me have already reported. The PT is very weak. I have been sure to include plenty of supplementary workouts every day to preserve my fitness. I feel confident by the time I leave OSUT I will be scoring into the extended scale for PT. My only downside so far was a foot injury sustained during combatives which will not impede my progress. I will make sure it fully heals before Airborne and RASP and my motivation has not faltered. I look forward to graduating and continuing my task of earning the title of Airborne Ranger.

To the future soldiers reading this... Heed the Rangers' words very carefully when they dispense advice. Everything I am posting here has been echoed by the ones before me for the most part, and I will repeat them once again. It is very simple.

Be in the right place, at the right time, in the right uniform. Do the right thing. Integrity. There is no secrets to the military, especially IET. Just do what you are told and exceed standards. Like the Rangers here always say: Never quit! OSUT is laden with lazy, unmotivated individuals with the maturity of small children. Stay focused and patient, they are a passing nuisance. Ignore all the shenanigans, expect to be punished as part of the group for the mistakes of these individuals. I like to look at it as supplementary training; it is fun to get smoked.

My next report will be posted after Graduation.

Rangers,

I previously stated I would follow up with news of my graduation. Unfortunately, the situation developed in a way I did not forsee. As I previously stated, I injured my foot during a combatives tournament. It was originally believed to be a sprain, so I toughed it out for a few weeks and trained as normal. It turned out to be a fracture at the base of the 5th metatarsal. I was ordered on 30 day convalescent leave. Although I was very against missing out on training, I decided to use my head and let the fracture heal; or else not be physically fit for BAC/RASP. The injury did heal for the most part and I returned a few weeks ago. After waiting for a few weeks for paperwork to process, I am now in my new company which is entering the AIT portion of OSUT. I am fully able to perform the duties required of me, as well as perform copious PT without pain.

This changes nothing however. During Convalescent leave I trained as much as possible while allowing the foot to heal, while following my physical profile. My contract remains the same, and I am very excited to get back on track now. I simply look at this as more time to refine my technique and become a better soldier. Time to finish strong in Round two.

Rangers,

I am proud to report that I have finally graduated OSUT. It was too easy. Despite my injury and having to be recycled, I am now filled with more resolve than ever. My new company provided me more physical challenge which I actually enjoyed. I was honored to be among the next generation of infantrymen on the parade field. As I am typing this, I am currently on the bus to Airborne. I eagerly await my next task, and am ready to continue mission. I will utilize my time off in Airborne extensively to work on physical readiness for RASP as well as touch up the non physical aspects of what I will be expected to know. I have nothing further to report at this time, as I believe actions will show my progress far better than talk. Next report will be when I graduate BAC.

Rangers,

As of tommorow morning, I will be Airborne qualified. Airborne School was an interesting experience to say the least. I am addicted to jumping! It was an absolutely awesome experience for me and I found myself wanting to go again and again. The Black Hats' silly antics definitely kept things interesting.

One thing I definitely noted here was the reaction many of my peers displayed to the freedom you get here. Some fellow RASP headed soldiers showed motivation akin to my own, yet many more decided all they wanted to do was party/drink or skulk around Game Link all day after being released. They showed signs of "quitteritis", complaining about how RASP will strip them of their freedom again and talking about dropping their contracts. I hope that they do. I do not want to rely on people like that in combat. It was cool meeting the more motivated individuals who I will be glad to go to RASP with. I will be moved over to Pre RASP tomorrow and I hear the PT we receive is pretty good. I eagerly look forward to it and RASP; completing the final objective to my Ranger Goal.

Future Soldiers, heed this well: Do not lose focus, ever. The challenge is maintaining the focus and motivation you have now. Do not forget why you are here, when you get here.

Roger Ranger Jim.

I found out I will actually enter Pre RASP on Tuesday. I will use this weekend to do some good PT and rest up for whatever gets thrown my way that day. People already told the Liason they wanted to quit, I am appalled by this. I am anxious to begin and nothing, not even the most nightmarish scenarios I can picture will make me falter. After all, this is the only reason I enlisted and I will accept nothing else.
