Introduction

Postby CobiaKiller » February 15th, 2012, 9:27 pm

Hello,
My military experience is very limited compared to most of y'all. I went into the Army Reserves right out High School in May 1985. 376th Acft. Maint. Co. (AVUM) at Knox Field, Al. BCT at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. AIT at Ft. Eustis, Va. (67Y-Attack Helicopter repairer). Spring 1986 started my College career and I entered the SMP program while in ROTC that fall. A year or so later, after ROTC advanced Camp at Ft. Riley, Ks., I applied for and was offered a job in Refinery Operations with a major oil company. The money was too much for me to turn away from so I took the job and never looked back. Leaving school took ROTC away from me and rotating shift work took the reserves away also. The company I work for was very Guard/Reserve unfriendly back then. I was strongly encouraged to resign for the betterment of my career so I did. To the IRR I went and have been ever since. I have never regretted my decision to leave the Reserves but I have missed it from time to time over the years. The company has come ALONG way since then though and now we support quite a few individuals in the Guard/Reserves, some of whom have deployed to Iraq and Afganistan multiple times.
I am here taking up y'alls time today because my youngest son has decided he wants to be a Ranger and has enlisted as a 42A MOS with an option 40 contract. In fact, he is at Ft. Benning now and starts BCT shortly. Both of us have been hanging around this excellent forum for sometime now as guests while he has been in the DEP. Neither felt the need to join and post until now because there is so much information already available here for someone who will just look for it. I did have a question pop up when my son left for MEPS that I cannot find any info on so I decided to register and post this intro. I will post my question in the proper forum. Thanks for taking the time to read this post and for supporting such an excellent and informative forum.

Thank all y'all for your welcome. I will keep y'all posted as he progresses on his goal of being a U.S. Army Ranger. That's good advice dangit. Believe me he has heard that message in many forms during his life. From "anything worth doing is worth doing right" to "quitters never win and winners never quit". I just hope it stuck! :D
I have no doubt he will do fine. It's all about want to and this is what he wants.

Update. My son has graduated BCT from Ft. Benning and is now at Ft. Jackson approaching the halfway mark in AIT. He says he is ready to get back to Ft.Benning and Airborne school. All the AR dashes and DD forms are starting to run together!
