Do you intend to drop out of college before completing? Are you currently flunking out? Welcome to the site.

Yes, if I am able to get the contract that I want then I will be planning on going this summer. No I am not failing out. I currently have gold stars(gpa of 3.7 or higher). It is just something that I really want to do.

Well Brother, I applaud you for that, really I do, but if advice from an old Ranger who has missed the boat so many times he can't count them all means anything.................?

You have a 3.7................ AT THE CITADEL! Stay in school. Get your education FINISHED then do great things for your country. I have four sons and would give anything to have one of them where you already are and would be puttin' a boot in their 4th point of contact if they were talkin' like you are. Ju's sayin'

So Cadet. Let me give you some things to think about. Let's say you do get an Option 40 contract (which is a very hard get these days). The last I heard only about 21% actually make it through RASP. You may say to yourself..."I will never quit" and have a great deal of confidence in yourself but you know what? Don't you think the vast majority of the young men who started RASP felt the same way about themselves? So since the odds are very much against you having success, what is your "Plan B"? Well you don't have a choice of a "Plan B" because you did sign a contract. You can't say "I quit" and go back to college. The Army will decide what they want to do with you and that is most likely serving in a Mech unit so that eliminates doing the fun cool guy Ranger things you want to do. At least if you attempt this profession after you graduate. You do have a degree to fall back on when your enlistment is up. Your desire to serve is respected and appreciated but I think you need to think things through a little more.

Welcome to the site. That is a heavy plan you're working on. It requires serious cost benefit analysis, with emphasis on opportunity cost. Do not enter into that decision lightly.

So, you're going to quit? Got it.

Recommend you read the sage advice you have been given here from Rangers Zone IV, colt1rgr and GoldCoast and make sure you are fully committed to a course of action. If you do sign an Option 40 contract this summer, best of luck but just make sure you know what you want and are prepared for any potential eventuality.
