SITREP- Report on the 24th July

Postby saint1 » July 15th, 2011, 9:28 pm

Rangers,

I have successfully completed IBOLC and earned my Blue Cord. I can truthfully say that I have grown both physically and mentally as a leader. I was assigned the SAW as my primary weapon and lugging that thing around changed my attitude real quick about how tough I though I was. I was strong in the academic areas as well as my graded patrols which gives me hope for RS. My previous MOS also gives me terrain-model skills which I found were always in need during the planning phase, I hope to also apply these in RS. Other then that everything was really crawl-walk-run and just a matter of getting up and getting it done. All the guys that were in my platoon were good guys and I can say that I am glad to be selected as an Infantry Officer.

My company has just completed our mini-RAP week to select who will be classing up. The heat has been the biggest factor of all removing several good guys already during our 5-mile run and 12-mile ruckmarch. Land Nav also removed a few of my friends. It is hard to see guys who you believe are better soldiers then yourself be removed...makes the task ahead more meaningful.

As of now I am fighting the packing list trying to figure out what is good and what is not. The one RI I know has about as much of a clue as me and the gossip coming from recent Darby recycles and HHC cadre isn't helping. But I'm excited to be classing up, but I cannot say I am looking forward to the prickly heat, constant pissing, mosquitoes, and wet ACU's. Hey, at least I will not have to get out my sleep system at night!

Well, it's off to CrossFit Inception (a ranger owned facility) to continue my fitness program. (If you are reporting to IBOLC soon PM me) P.S. A t-shirt over your face while you sleep is better then the bug nets, so don't waste your money. It's the buzzing noise that sucks more then the biting.

V/R

In today's Infantry, a tab is an asset. Most Lieutenants begin their careers as kind of a blank slate, the tab gets you noticed. By the way, what unit are you going to?

I was going to ask "what the hell is a sleep system?" Is that what they call a poncho liner these days"?

Rangers,

I'm sure I'll learn soon enough how to sleep in cold weather with just my woobie. But for now I'm glad I don't have to bother getting my fart sack out since it is so hot at night. Ranger Jim, I am off to Lewis to serve with the 2ID. I've been tentatively slated to 4th Brigade, 2-23rd, AKA the Tomahawks.

My wife seems to know the importance of the Tab, she has told me multiple times that she does not want to 'be that wife' who's husband couldn't hack it.

Respectfully,

ALCON,

Finally I have the time to catch up to personal endevors. Graduated class 03-12 on March 2nd. I know that July '11 to March '12 is quite some time. Here is the breakdown.

July '11 - Prior heat injury, NO-GO. Attend Airborne and Stryker Leader Course.

October '11 - Report and complete Benning Phase (Jump #6), Recycle Mountians as class 2-12. Christmas exodus -> Florida phase (Jump #7), recycle as class 3-12 with 21 day hold-over at 6th RTB. GO Florida and graduate Class 3-12 on March 2, 2012.

I am currently at Ft. Lewis sitting in S-3 until I take my platoon in Sept. - Nov. After that it is RASP II and hopefully back to GA ( I hate this rain.)

Proud to announce that I did take care of business before I went back and my wife and I had our second little girl April 20th!

Respectfully,

Good SITREP! Having experienced the mountain phase twice, myself. You earned my respect for your fortitude.

Congrats on the little girl, first and foremost!

Good job getting your shit! No Infantry Lt is going anywhere without it.

As far as your first post in this thread....the SAW??? BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Try being on a gun team or better yet a mortar maggot! I bet the SAW didn't seem so bad with some of the stuff you lugged around RS!
