SITREP - Prodigy922

Postby Prodigy922 » December 30th, 2010, 11:40 pm

Checking in real quick. Currently stuck in Great Lakes IL. I didn't have to go back through basic evidently. I did a Naval training checklist which includes all of the requirements to graduate Naval bootcamp and become a "Sailor", thus making me a squid. I'm waiting on orders. In the mean time I've got in touch with the spec ops community here and am researching my options. Now that I am here, I've found there are more than I thought. We even tried to torque it and get my orders changed right here on the spot but it's a little more complicated than that. I'll need to submit my medical packet as soon as I can to get a waiver then get transfered back here to start the pre buds program. Though I wouldn't mind a branch switch to Army Infantry for the chance to try out for Rangers, far fetched as it sounds. I'll post back up when something significant happens.

3 weeks into my "A" school. It's about 8 hours a day 5 days a week. Not too bad, a lot of testing and a lot of material though. I spoke with a spec ops liaison, the word is that I can't do anything in regards to spec ops paperwork until I get to my first command. However what I CAN continue to do is PT and continue to develop physically and mentally.

In addition to the SEALs pipeline, I've spoken to many people about Blue to Green and it's availability. Being a Ranger is still there, I may have to wait until 13 months prior to my separation to put in the paperwork but I'll only have more experience and knowledge with time, no rush. Never quit.

Good to hear from ya Prod. You set a great example.
What school did you get? You still at Great Lakes?

Ranger K.Ingraham,

I'm no longer at Great Lakes. I'm attending IT "A" school in Pensacola Florida right now. The course is about 4 months long and you come out with a couple civilian computer certifications to your name, which is extremely beneficial whether you're in or out. I lead class "PT" for what it is, though the motivation to do PT on an intelligence base is absolutely slim.

Additionally, if any of the Rangers or liaisons, or anyone generally in the "know" of the policies concerning blue to green from the green side of things right now, I'd really appreciate some information on it. Never quit.

UPDATE: We have been fucking SLAMMED. The program is really unorganized and these classes are still the developing classes for it. Our first certification tests are next week.

However here's the real news; the Navy Dev group, former SEAL team 6, has recruiters coming to base next week. They need IT's to be attached to their teams fresh out of this new program. From what I understand, they find motivated young sailors, and you get orders to go to Dev team RIGHT out of "A" school. There's more to it of course, training, tests, classes, but this would be a godsend if I could get this opportunity. They pulled me out of class today to let me know to let me know they're coming. I'll give more news next week.

Sounds like a great opportunity if you cannot get a BUD/S slot. Go there, be the best IT guy you can be (do realize you won't be kicking doors in), and if anyone is in the right position to make phone calls in your favor to get you on to BUD/S, it is those guys.

I do, however, find it interesting that that unit is recruiting guys (even support guys) straight out of "A" school.

Ranger goon175,

I found it a bit odd as well. They had a representative come in to find out if anyone was interested and 2 people, including myself, signed up to go next week. As I said before there's more to it than simply going straight out of "A" school, but I'm not positive on the specifics. I was told there'd be a pretty rigorous follow-up after "A" school before actually getting attached, possibly a related "C" school, which at this point in time I'm not worried about. But as you said, this is an excellent opportunity for new doors.

The mostly official academic portion of schooling is over, and we're now in the last run which will go into next month. The budget for "holding" here is extremely low, so they're doing "grad n' go" from what I understand now. You graduate, you leave for your duty station a few hours later. I'll be in Hawaii for a few years. I received my honor grad coin last week. Never quit.

Honor grad! The Army's loss is the Navy's gain. Good work Prodigy. Your path didn't lead to RASP, but you set a helluva example.

There's a NSW element based in the island, once you've proven your skill in the fleet, go knock on their door & see if they need a good IT tech. Lots of ways to skin a cat. Hope you've been improving your PT.

I keep this thread alive because I have no intentions of letting these dreams go. I ship out this month to begin the first journey in the intelligence field. I keep my posts alive here because of the motivation, assistance, and support the site and community has brought me. Again, thanks everyone over the years who've contributed.

Prodigy, congrats on your achievements thus far. Remember to pay attention to things while you are out the in the fleet. Ranger Ingraham's statement of "more ways to skin a cat" is more true than you can imagine. Look forward to hearing about your progression.

Roger,

I've been at my command awhile now and made some excellent first impressions. I hit the ground running as intended and am trying to rapidly catch up to some of the other people in my position. There's currently 2 things going on as far as the long-term goes. In regards to special operations, some people are reluctant to help with my medical history, however my command is helping me to build an officer package here over the next year. We'll see which road becomes prominent over the next 8-12 months.

Drive on Prodigy. I have never seen you whine about your set backs on here. You simply drive on and find other routes to the objective never quitting. I am convinced you have the heart of a Ranger.
