I ran across this site about the Canadian Rangers. Part of the Canadian reserve forces. Very interesting.

Interesting indeed. They seem more kin to Rangers of the past than the current generation.

yeah, as of the 90s, the Airborne Coy's (Companies), which used to make up the ABN Regiment were more like us than any other unit.

good dudes all around, and they liked us much more than the 82 guys they had worked with previously.

actually I've been impressed with all the Canadians I've worked/played with. they may talk funny, but they drink and live hard, and I'm sure they fight hard too. I'd stand with them.

Long Range Recon Patrols in your own country. Besides being illegal here (Posse Comatas) can you imagine the uproar it would cause among the populace....and rightfully so!

They are part of the Canadian Defense Forces. More like the Army National Guard State Guards (as we have in Virginia).

I do plead ignorance to most things in Canadia, as well as many other things!

At first glance, I found the idea abhorant and couldn't imagine the American public going for it. Then it dawned on me that we are already doing much the same thing for Border Security. I guess it just depends on who you're doing the recon on!

Ranger Jim, I have Canadian brothers?
"My religious convictions teach me to feel as safe in battle as if I were safe asleep in bed. The time of my death is fixed. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready no matter when it may overtake me. That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave." - General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson

Well, from the mid to late 80s forward, there have been all kind of active and guard units doing the war on drugs. For example, LRS TMs and one BP agent going out and doing live missions (w/ fairly restrictive, defensive oriented LEO driven ROE) on stateside objectives. Aviation units also participated heavily. know a guy who has "ID'd and successfully interdicted 400lbs of MJ and 40 illegals" on one of his OERs.

There have been lots of mil. Involvement in the war on drugs pre 9/11. And it was good training and practice too.

We did several missions in the US in 5th Group. One was on Big Bear Mountain in California. We found Jerry Garcia's manager's marijuana field and put eyes on it. The other mission we did was in Death Valley looking for Meth labs. It was in the winter, but it was still hot.

Stuff like this was going on all the time during the early 1990s.
