Here is a suggestion……..
Go to a SF forum, if there is one, and tell them of your intentions.
Gain the personal assistance of a SF soldier to include PM’s and contact phone numbers at SF to get the info that you desire.
Get the straight scoop from SF.
On their forum publicly dismiss the info that you have received from SF guys trying to help you and then go on about how you have no intention of making any effort to impress any of them.
Let us know how that goes.

Re: 35F + Option 40 = impossible, according to MEPS
You talk too much. When you're not talking, you're busy pissing on the graves of all the Infantrymen that are "beneath" you. Stupid legs with their 110 GT scores. Am I right?
You know, you beat me by a whole 16 points on your GT score. Props to you. I took it when I was 18 or 19 and hungover with no college time. I suppose being a collegiate Varsity Track Team Captain at a reputable Top 10 school majoring in English Literature gave you a leg up. Then again, I didn't give up the Army because my Mom was anti-war. But whatever. In all seriousness, good job on school.
The bottom line is you have everything in the world going for you, but when things get tough, you back out. You're Mom prevented you from joining the first time, where you re-nigged on your commitment. You're goal was to be a member of the RSTB and all you spoke about in your intro was your extreme desire to be a Ranger, and now you think SF is more of an intellectual man's game, so you jump ship. You mentioned not wanting a Combat MOS? I guess an 18series MOS is definitely the way to go then.
There's nothing wrong with choosing an MOS that interests you, but when you base your decisions on an ArmyTimes publication (subject to change at any time) regarding promotion points, and the bonuses involved, you start to waiver.
I don't get it? You talk so much, you analyze so much, you waiver so much; what is it you want?
You want the cool Oakleys and a beard? You want the prestige? You want the intellectual challenge? You want to outwit your enemies to death? Can't decide? Just piss on all those dumb Infantrymen's graves 'till a better idea pops up.
I get it man, I really do. I like intellectual challenges, I like experiencing other cultures, I like the idea of being the best there is. But I don't tell myself that I won't take a chance based on "what if I fail". Simple fact is if you feel that way, you're already on that path.
Take a step back, figure out exactly what it is you want, check your attitude at the door, sign the dotted line, grab your nuts and then jump wildly into the dark night.

There is an SF site (http://www.professionalsoldiers.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), much like this one but don't expect any different advice on it. Bottom Line: Get down off your high horse as the world will continue to revolve in your absence. Quit over analyzing and worry about the 50 meter target. My advice would be not to go into SF or the Regiment at all until you are more mature as you definitely don't seem to know what you want. The fact that 18X exists at all is only because the pool from which SF draws from (the Army) is stretched to the breaking point. Before 9/11, you had to be an NCO in the regular army somewhere and I believe we got the best people following that path.

What the fuck kind of response is this to Ranger El Guapo? You've gotten 3 pages worth of advice from Rangers here and you're snide fucking attitude just keeps getting worse, as though you know better than these men the very same questions you've asked to have answered?Terrence_87 wrote:+1Elguapo wrote:

Go fuck yourself. Enjoy Korea with that other idiot. What I see here now is 3 pages of wasted effort from Rangers that could've been directed at a worthwhile candidate.

Re: 35F + Option 40 = impossible, according to MEPS
Rangers,
I've made a decision, and I stick by it. 35F + opt. 4 or 40 or neither. I'm signing as soon as a slot is available.
I do not intend to 'piss' on any Infantryman's grave. Sincerely, Ranger Elguapo, if I wanted to flaunt my so-called intelligence, tests scores or my alma mater, and if I thought that I was better than any 11B (10% of the Army), I wouldn't consider joining the military-- let alone your Regiment. The man I consider my dad is a retired SGM and Infantryman of Vietnam, so I couldn't let this accusation hang around out of respect for him. Hope you understand.
I'm not here to start shit with Rangers. I incorrectly used this space as a blackboard to work through the enlistment process/choosing an MOS. My apologies, Rangers.

You can add to that list; Proven firefighters, Police officers, pizza cooks, auto mechanics, janitors, teachers.. Get my point? But, of course, proven Rangers will never believe in anyone until they see it..
I had a much longer response, but I already get the impression my words will be lost. Bottom line, if you aren't doing a job you like, you will be miserable whether SF, Ranger.. whatever. I've mentioned here before that one of the most physically and mentally tough men I ever met was a mechanic. You really want a challenge? Go to EOD. It is academically the hardest and longest enlisted school in the military, they most certainly will break you down like a shotgun and build you back in their image, and you can't deny the amount of sack it takes to do the job. Also, you might want to tone down the "all or nothing" frame of mind. One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was from a drill sgt. who used to say, "One has to maintain one's flexibility in today's modern Army.."
BTW, I don't know about the other men here, but personally, I have never "looked down" on a non-Ranger, unless they deserve it by talking shit about something they nothing about.

Dude,
I'm pissed because according to the books, you're a PT stud (collegiate track athlete), very intelligent (Top 10 School), have the want to serve our Country, yet all you do is keep backing up and trying to figure out a "smarter" way into the military. Sign up and do it. If you can be the absolute best there is, then be the best there is. This website isn't a "blackboard", it's here to get you spun up to doing something great with your life in service to our Nation. Simple as that. You want the answers, there here. You want advice, it's already been written.
I'm not trying to cliche or even chic when I say this: You have to grab your balls and jump in the deep end. It takes physical and mental strength, but at the end of the day you have to have guts and heart. Without it, you're not going to get a different colored beret. There isn't anything wrong with the Regular Man's Army, it wins wars. But it is what it is man.
If you were my little Private or Specialist, I'd hook you up through utter physical trauma and an intellectual overflow of knowledge. I would crush you myself and build you into Professor Rambo. You go to the right places in the Army, and you'll get much better training than I could ever provide, namely the 75th or SF. It's the best, cut and dried. You apparently have the ability, don't freaking waste it.
Edit: And don't be thanking me or any of that crap. It's time for you to move out and draw fire.
