Started my first permenent job with the US Forest Service on Smokey's 60th Birthday

My brother did the same thing when he left the service. Said he was going to hang-out with Smokey and try talking to trees instead of wrapping them in det. cord. I thought he was nuts. But between that job and the Army, it really made him the solid person he is today.

Demolitions are approved/recommended for fighting forest fires in declared Wilderness...whoda thought ?

And a few wraps of det cord/well situated charge is perfect for trees too dangerous for chainsaw work (not including the rocket-propelled chainsaws).

Like I said, guys like yourself, my brother and the others around here who give back in that way are what makes this country great.

He spent a lot of time up in the Finger Lakes which I believe is our only National Forest. But the back and forth traveling was too much. He did however parlay that experience into a nice career.
