What makes a Ranger?

Post by mr02060 »

Hello Rangers,
I am scheduled to brief my ROTC class in the next few weeks over any subject of my choosing as long as it pertains to the Army. I have chosen to talk about the Army Rangers. I have done a lot of research all over the web and this site has by far been the most informative. I want to show my respect for the Rangers by giving a 100% accurate briefing and not giving any misleading or false information. The question I have may be a simple one, but it has confused me before and I know some people that are confused as well. My question is, What does one have to do in order to earn the title Ranger? I'll list the information I have now and if it isn't correct please give me feedback so I can make the necessary changes.

Ranger School- This only means that a person is "Ranger Qualified" and cannot call themselves a Ranger.
(Question- Can someone who only completes Ranger School serve with the 75th?)

RASP/ROP- Completion of this is awarded with the Scroll. This person is allowed to serve with the Regiment.
(Scroll on right shoulder= Actually served and saw combat with the 75th= makes this Soldier a Ranger forever and always)
(Scroll on left shoulder= This Soldiers unit served with the Rangers and he is only a Ranger while he is with that unit)

Sorry if I have offended anyone with my lack of knowledge. I just want to give my classmates the best information possible.
Thanks again Rangers for doing all you do.

Well, I will say after attending and graduating Ranger School and serving as a Ranger Instructor, I call myself a Ranger everyday and try to live the standards of the Creed every day.

Those that served in the Regiment are now and have always been a Ranger for their service in the Regiment. As are those that served in Ranger Companies from WWII to present.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong...not likely, but possible.

No. They would also need to complete Airborne School as well before being considered for service in the Regt.

Roger Ranger Looon and Ranger rgrwest.

Ranger Looon, is this a possible scenario?

ROTC Cadet graduates from Airborne School while in college, attends Ranger School after graduation, then serves with Regiment. Or would the new officer have to go through ROP?

Serve ( honorably ) in a Ranger Battalion, and you are a RANGER.

Go to Ranger School, you recieve Ranger Training.

The Ranger Tab is an award for completing a U.S. Army School......

The Scroll is a way life.

I went to Ranger School, received Ranger training.

I received the tab as an award for completing that US Army School.

I then went to the BDQs, wore an unauthorized scroll, and the BDQ way of life changed my life forever.

Thanks for the input Rangers.
Ranger xray- I'm scheduled to give the presentation this coming Tuesday. I'll finish it up by the early weekend (probably Friday afternoon) and I'll post it for anyone who wants to look at it and give recommendations on how to make it better.

I'm surprised no one mentioned that you could tel an Airborne Ranger by his boots-
cause they're shiny as glass and they're always kicking ass...
