Reporting to RS 26 MAY 08. Some RAP questions?

Postby Hilo » May 18th, 2008, 1:19 am

Rangers,

Will report to the 26 MAY 08 Ranger School Course. Leaving from my post to GA on the 20th. I’m excited and ready to go. However, to say that I’m not the least bit worried would be a flat out lie. I’m most concerned with the initial RPFT. Why? Because statistically, as I have learned, this is where most failures occur. I’m in shape, but let’s put it this way: my chances of passing the pushups after being sent to the back of the line to retest are questionable. I need to pass the Push Ups and Sit-ups the first time.

Here are my questions:

When you went through Ranger School did you rest at all in the authorized rest position (ass up)?

How many PUs did you do total and how many were counted?
I’d be particularly interested in people who were former Ranger Instructors and how they feel about the authorized rest position while doing Push Ups.

Any other general advice/TTPs would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Hilo

I'm still a cherry Ranger  ...having said that, if you do CORRECT PU, you WILL be fine. I knocked out 50 in about 50 sec, and 49 were counted....my grader told me to get up after that. you should be able to max PU, but for the RPFT, you must attain only 70%.

If you can't knock out 49 without resting you may be in trouble!

Over exaggerate locking it out and slightly graze you your chest and you will be good!

The RPFT should be the LEAST of your worries...here's the rundown:

You will do the PU and SU portions in a saw-dust pit...left at that, you will basically be counting your own repetitions, so (as in EIB standards) EXAGGERATE EVERYTHING. Seriously, though, it's ONLY 49 P/U's and (I believe) 59 S/U's...if you're worried about these, then you should reconsider coming, lest that left arm not be able to hold up the Tab.

Stay with (or ahead) of "the pack" for the 5-miler. Upon completion, you'll lightly jog around a 1/2 mile track to cool-down. For chin-ups, nice and slow. They'll say up, you go up. They'll say down, you go down. Easy enough?

Good luck, and DON'T QUIT!

Yeah, I just wonder if he made it...looks like they upgraded his name and put Ranger underneath, so I am guessing so.

He did indeed graduate the course. He came back and updated, but I don't care enough to go digging for that thread.
