Propayne7-Introduction

Post by propayne7 »

Rangers,

Just a quick introduction about myself. I am still a young gun in the Army with only two years under my belt. I am currently a mechanic in Artilleryland but am trying to reclass to 89D EOD. Never have been deployed, but am looking forward to continue training and progressing in my career until I do get deployed.

The reason I am here is because the mentality and standards the Rangers carry. I have nothing but respect for Rangers, and even more importantly, any veteran who has served or is currently serving this nation. I look forward to not posting often but more just as a learning experience and to ask questions (after searching of course) if I have any.

Welcome and thank you for your service.

EOD unfortunately is a necessary evil, make sure you get all the training you can with that choice. Knew a few in Vietnam, I think they all were just a little bit crazy, but they had our respect.

Welcome and thank you for your service. First and foremost the path you are hoping to chose is long and quite challenging.

Getting accepted for EOD reclassification is far easier than graduating NAVSCOLEOD. I won't go into all of the details here but one detail that is under your control completely I will go into.

To get accepted into NAVSCOLEOD the government will initiate a Single Scope Background Investigation. Initially they will assign you a interim Secret Clearance, eventually if all goes well you will be granted a Top Secret Clearance with some neat identifiers.

In preparation for that I cannot emphasis enough that the first thing you should do is contact the the 3 big Credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) and get copies of your credit report. You may think that you have a good score but you'll never know exactly until you get those reports. Once you have those reports you should review them with a credit counselor and ensure that you have cleared up any issues (either small or large) or any inconsistencies.

One of the biggest holdups in granting a final Top Secret Clearance for EOD personnel is bad or piss poor credit so start the process now of getting your credit evaluated and fixed if need be.

Also to note is that if your clearance hasn't been granted by one of the sub-phases during Phase 2 at Eglin Air Force base you will be on hold for training until your clearance is granted.

I will not go into which sub-phase that is and I'm not even going to get started on Category II Presidential Support qualifications.

Thank you for all of the information fusion94, as you stated, the process for getting accepted into EOD was quite easy. Fortunately for me my credit score is good and I already have a Secret security clearance. I am currently waiting on a school date from HRC, unless my unit gets a deployment order. I have been told and understand that the road ahead is a long and challenging one, but I am determined to graduate at Eglin and get my EOD crab.

Having a good credit score is NOT enough. As an EOD tech you will have access to compartmentalized information. One of the things that can bite you in the ass is by being overextended on your credit. Make every effort to pay off or pay down some of your current debts if you have anything unusual.

No problem, even though I went to NAVSCOLEOD back when it was hard I should be able to provide you with some guidance. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions etc.

Welcome Soldier.

You do not have to address our Rangers on site unless they already have Ranger in their name such as Ranger513. As a Veteran/Active Duty you have earned this privilege.
