Army Service Uniform (new blues)

Post by rgrokelley »

OK, I'm about to go out and get my first "new" dress blue uniform at clothing sales. Eventually we will need to switch over, so I'm going to pick up one a year so its not so painful (I'll need about five for my job that wears it year round).

So, I've looked at all the pictures and information, but there is a few things I'm curious about. It looks like the Ranger Tab is going to go above the ribbons, but below the CIB.

But what about Special Forces? :D

Does the SF tab go beside the Ranger tab, or above it?

It looks like the only thing that has changed from the old Class A is that you now wear a metal unit patch on your pocket. Everything else is the same.

I've never seen the SF Tab above, only beside the Ranger Tab. But I've been out of the Army since 2002.

(4) For purposes of classification and wear policy, the Sapper, Ranger, and Special Forces tab metal replicas are classified as group 4 special skill badges.

(5) As an option, soldiers may wear the full-size and dress miniature Sapper, Ranger, and Special Forces tab metal replicas on the AG shade 415 shirt. If soldiers wear the dress miniature versions of the tabs, they cannot mix them with other sizes of combat and special skill badges on the shirts. When personnel wear metal tab replicas on the pocket flap of the blue or white dress uniforms, or the AG shade 415 shirt, the tab is placed approximately 1/8 inch below the top of the pocket. If no badges are worn from groups 1 to 3, personnel may wear the metal tab replica above the ribbons.

f. Wear of three special skill tabs. Soldiers may wear the full-color Sapper, Ranger, and Special Forces tabs together on Army uniforms.

(1) On the Army green service uniform, the Special Forces tab is centered on the left shoulder sleeve, 1/2 inch from the shoulder seam, the Ranger tab is centered 1/8 inch below the Special Forces tab, and the Sapper tab is centered 1/8 inch below the Ranger tab. The current unit shoulder sleeve insignia is centered 1/4 inch below the Sapper tab. On the utility uniforms and the cold weather jackets, personnel wear the subdued tabs in the same positions as on the Army green service uniform (see fig 29-60 ).

(2) On the Army blue and white uniforms, and on the AG shade 415 shirt, personnel wear the full-size metal tab replicas on the pocket flap, 1/8 inch from the top of the pocket, with approximately 1/2 inch between the tabs. If no badges are worn from groups 1 to 3, personnel may wear the metal tab replicas above the ribbons (see fig 29-61 ).

(3) See paragraph 29-17 c (3) (b) for a description of how to wear the dress miniature metal Sapper, Special Forces, and Ranger tab replicas together on the Army blue and white mess and evening mess uniforms (see fig 29-62 ).

Pretty sure that answers your question. If you want I can go see how group 4 is worn on the uniform.

I referenced this site http://www.army.mil/asu/alaract.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for my understanding that those badges are worn the same on the ASU as they were on the dress blues.

I really need to go back to work...

I continue to reserve judgement on the new ASU. Personally, I think it is too "fancy." But WTF do I know -- I'm a retired FOG.

Anyway, I think I've got an example...

See the tab is....

Oh wait.

My bad. That's not the new uniform, that's a uniform taken from some gay ass 80's science fiction show.

I get the two confused...

Just wear the Sapper Tab. I hear that school is just like Ranger school, and the Q course combined.

So it will let everyone know you are awesome...

We shouldn't be worrying too much. The Army will change all its uniforms again soon enough...til they get it right and we have to fork over another house payment to get it.

Right. I think they should double our clothing allowance the year they make it mandatory. The Dress Blues do suck ass... Class As look much much better and should still be the main dress uniform.

I vote to bring back the old Khaki's. Now those were sharp, yet not fancy.

That patch that you wear on your right breast pocket is the Combat Service Badge. It's kind of strange, but there is actually no place on the uniform set aside to identify the unit with whom you currently serve. If you've never been to a combat zone, you're homeless.
