Intro-Matthew
Good Evening All,
I am Matthew and I am 39 years young. I want to thank the Admin and the creators for hosting this much needed web site. I am prior service....Air Force...please don't hold it against me...lol. Seriously though, last week I had my re-entry physical at the MEPS at Ft. Lee, VA. I am waiting for the next step which is the career counselor I do believe. I am most physically fit and I am excited about beginning this journey in order to earn a tan beret. I know it won't be easy, but if it was easy, then anyone could do it. I began this journey two years ago when I became a secuirty contractor in A-stan and Iraq. I had the honor and priviledge of working with former Rangers, Group guys, SEALS, etc. With that being said, after working with these silent professionals, I decided to skip the good money, and really earn my future pay check hopefully soon as a Ranger. Hence my user name...Rangeroneday. If this breaks the rules, by all means I will change it. Once again, my respect to all of you who are Rangers, are in OSUT right now, and those that are like myself...attempting to live the dream. Thank you.

Re: Intro-Matthew
Thanks to all of you who have welcomed me here. The brotherhood in this forum is bar none OUTSTANDING. My second contracting job was in Iraq. My first base was Tallil. One of my fellow co-workers was a former D-boy. He was our medic. Practically a licensed P.A. I won't say his name due to OPSEC, and besides that he was very humble and very porfessional. Anyway...up until then I had never really been around non-combat Army units. And don't get me wrong...it's an all volunteer force so my respect to all that serve. My point is this. While I was there at Talill, I saw many non-combat personnel from all branches bad mouthing their unit, the Army, their branch of service, and at times, our country. Very disappointing to say the least. I told "Doc" that I had never heard Group guys or Rangers, not even regular Marine Infantry complain about their actual job. That's when he looked at me and said..."most people in the military think they have a mission....special ops types KNOW they have a mission". That is how this forum feels...men who know they have a mission...and the only phrase at the end of the day should be "mission complete". I hope I have the intestinal fortitude to see this thing through. Of course that's assuming I can convince the career counselor at MEPS. By the way...I read the thread concerning the recruitment phase so I am really confident on how to handle that situation when it happens.

Re: Intro-Matthew
Matt,
Your age doesn't matter too much as regards baseline strength & fitness as measured by PT tests and all that. Where you are going to suck and what will likely cost you is recuperability.
In RASP & RS you go long periods without sleep and so have no opportunity to mentaly defrag or rebuild your strength. What you go to Cole Range with will have to sustain you all the way through and brother, there's a pretty good chance you will not have enough. The 19 year olds you're surrounded with will seem to bounce back just by thinking of sleep.
I hope you make it but be aware that you need to work twice as hard just to go half as far.
When you sign the line, make sure you get an MOS that you won't mind working in the big army, chances are for the vast majority of Opt40s is that is where you're going - and your odds are even higher.
It can be done, go make us FOGs proud and prove it again.
(and now to test your FOG eyesight: no need to reply to this post)
