Weapons when you were in

Post by M60 »

What were the primary small arms weapons in use in your units when you were in? I'll start.

M-16A1
M-203
M-60
XM-21
M1911A1
M67 90mm recoiless rifle
60 mm mortar (don't know designation, M2 maybe?)

M60
1/75 Co. A, 2nd Plt, Weapons squad. 1975-1977

I still miss my old M-60. She was heavy and could be temperamental, but I loved that gun...

Swap the 1911 for the 92, the M-21 for the M-24 and slap the M203 on the end of the list and you have our arms room covered.

We did have some MP-5s and AK-47s, but they pretty much only got used at the firing range.

Repeal the 16th, enforce the 10th.

My first issued weapon was a 9mm Beretta. Later, as I transitioned units, I was assigned an M230 Chain Gun.

The M202
I once did a sniper mission (training) with that. The four battalion snipers had to crawl up to the objective and lay down suppressive fire with the M202s. I dragged the launcher and an extra four round clip behind me to get into position.

I never saw it again after 1984.

We got to fire the 202 once in Florida when training for Eagle Claw. There were some civilian contractors that brought it out. I asked one about the status of the weapon and he said that there'd been some problems with the rounds leaving the tube and then exploding....he mentions this AFTER I fired one....it was like a big 4-pack LAW, all plastic and green.

We received it in the spring of 69, one launcher and a pallet of reloads. We were supposed to test it against NVA bunkers and fighting positions. Sure was better than getting up close with a flame thrower.
