Just wait until he goes on his first deployment. Fortunately, you're not the first mother to have to experience this these days - the parent community here is a strong one, you'll find some strong shoulders and wise peers in there.

Welcome Pak. Mine earned his Tab last year. And he would say "Never, ever, quit".

As Ranger Zone IV stated, send him letters and cards; they do work wonders. Be there and listen when he calls with a situational report and then, if at all possible, be there to pin his tab on his shoulder. If that happens, it will be something you both remember and cherish forever.
