Welcome to the site. In Vietnam, I had the great fortune to serve in the 2nd Platoon of K-75 with Julian Gates. He was the platoon sergeant and I was the platoon leader.

Great introduction. Any student of Steve Hawk is welcome here. Last I saw him, he was teaching JROTC in North Georgia, and the president of Mountain Ranger association. Welcome...

He's still there. My oldest is in his class now. Good guy, and dedicated to the cause.

Welcome, Ranger Treadhead.

Good Intro.

Steve Hawk started his Ranger career as one of my M-60 gunners at 1st Batt in 1974. I just had the good fortune to spend a week with him at RR in Columbus for a week at the beginning of August, and the good luck to have him tell me that every crusty old bad habit he learned in the Army he managed to pick up from me, and so magically shortened his career

By the way, Jim, Hawk is still teaching JROTC, still with Mountain Ranger, and tells me that anytime he feels particularly perverse and wants to introduce the cadets to the dark side, he (briefly) pulls a page out of our manual to expose them to the "real" (i.e.: liable to get you busted, but probably worth it) side of Ranger character.

Zone IV, PM me with your real-world name, class number, etc., and I'll call Steve to accelerate the vetting process.

ZoneIV:

Sent you a PM reply - copied all previous respondents to this thread - contents duplicated here...

Ranger NAME DELETED FOR PERSEC ZoneIV (and the rest of you guys on the address list):

Hawk does remember you... he said he used to make you play him a song before he would let you eat breakfast.

One you get your verification packet and post it, he said to clear you, you're good to go after the 24-hour delay imposed by the board rules (G2G).

I told him to get his [behind] over here this evening and post an intro so he could get verified and on the board too.

Welcome aboard. Catch you later.

By the way - he says he still dips and loads with one finger - I'll let him tell you the multitude of bad habits he may or may not have learned from me... I'm sure Hawk can be much more descriptive about the maladapted behavior of the young Rangers who were unfortunate enough to receive their early military guidance from me...
