Howdy!

Post by The Holmchicken »

I've been on this site for a few weeks' now and since my body is all torqued after coming back from leave in New Zealand, I've thought it might be good idea to introduce myself.

I started out in Wpns Squad (Maggots), 3rd Plt (Earthpigs), Aco 2/75 Rgr. I got to BN in July, 1997. After dislocating my shoulder on deployment to Germany in Sep 98, I got to recover and was moved over to 3rd Squad of the same platoon, where I was a grenadier. From 3rd Squad I went to Pre-Ranger class 3-99 and onto Ranger School class 3-99. In Mountain Phase, after the knot test and before going to Mt. Yonah, I dislocated my goddamn shoulder again after tripping on a tree root on the that trail coming up from lowers. afetr sitting the Gulag for a week, the MTN Phase PA told me my shoulder was fucked and I could not continue the course. My PLT SGT, a man who I have nothing but respect and devotion for, got me a job in HHC working the S-2. So i stayed in Aco from July 97 until March 99. From March 99 until April 00 I was in HHC.

After coming back to battalion in Sep 00 from CH-47D repairer school, I was sent to Korea. While in Korea, I attended PLDC and three days after that, went to SFAS. I completed both PLDC and SFAS successfully, went back to Korea and waited for ETS. Problem was, Sep 11, 2001 was my second day of PLDC, so I got stop-lossed four months shy of ETS. To make a long story short instead of doing SF in the Guard, I went on the BEAR program to do active duty SF. Better than the 101st Avn Bde.

At Ft. Bragg, I reported for the Q Course, linked up with some old Ranger buddies I hadn't seen since before I went to Korea two years' earlier and proceeded to get myself in a bar fight. Very stupid, as it got me kicked out beofre I even got started. Not something I'm proud of, but at least I get to back to the Q Course in either Sep or Oct of this year. I'm currently in Cco-159 Avn (Chinook) at Bragg, were I've been evrything from a Sqd Ldr to Plt Sgt. Horrible unit, but the best learing experience I've ever had in the military. So that's that in a nutshell. Came back from New Zealand (my fiancee is a New Zealander, God bless her) and we were visiting her family. Anyway, that's all folks!

When do they decide what MOS you will be in the Q now a days, and will you have to do the same or get to change the next time you go in?

Now days, you request your MOS during Selection. After Selection, they tell you what MOS you got picked up for. I originally got picked up for 18B, but went to changed it 18C. All I had to do was see the student assignments counselor and ask for it to be changed. If you're in the 18D course and that doesn't workout, you can still get rolled into another MOS. As far as I know, I'm going to the 18C course again. EP, thanks for welcoming me again. It's always nice and it's been some time since I've heard from another Earthpig.

Do you think I cold get back on Active Duty and serve in that Chinook unit at Bragg as a pilot? Ever since I jumped out of one at Bragg in 1969 I wanted to fly one but never got the chance. My glasses are only for reading things up close. My distance vision is still good.
