Education Question

Post by JoeDGrinder »

Hello,

I am currently preparing to enlist (should be going to MEPs within the next week or two) and I have run into a problem with my MOS of choice. I want to go in as an 18X however I have a GED, due to personal/family issues I was unable to graduate high school, and I was told this will disqualify me. However I will be graduating with a BA in spring and I am wondering if a college degree can make up for the GED or if there are any options available to me to get this waived? I was told that I can still go OPT 40 with a GED, and my second question is: Is that true? I do not want to get to MEPs and get the shaft because of a miscommunication.

Thank you.

With a college degree, from an accredited school, you will be goood to go provided you score well on the tests you take at MEPS. No go do some push-ups.

Ranger Bill is correct. With an undergraduate degree from George Mason University, located right here in over-regulated Fairfax County, Virginia. You will be good to go.

In addition, if you have a GED and 60 hours of College level credits, you are qualified for Option 40.

Thank you for the response Rangers ,

Ranger(s) Ranger Bill and Jim, I was worried this might somehow be a problem and I am glad to see it is going to work out in the end.

Ranger Tenn-RGR,
My recruiter informed me I could go OPT 40 with a GED, however I was worried there might have been a mistake or a misccommunication.

All answers above are correct.

There are various ways to "make" a high school grad for enlistment purposes.

GED and college credits

Trade school certificate

college degree

foreign education documents acreddited in the US (and those that have been evaluated and allowed to count for the same credit as in the host country).

There are some others, but these are the ones you will most likely come across.
