Chas Durning was in the ETO, recieved the medals cited etc but he was NOT a Ranger, he served in 1st I.D.

Hendrix was drafted & did go to jump school & the 101, where he was a notable dirtbag. He did make good use of his time practicing the guitar.

James Doonan was a LT in the Royal Canadian Artillery.

Why is it not a surprise the see that Brother Willie got a medical from the Air Force? :D

OK, this is a LONG post. This is from an old ancient article called "Who's who in WWII"

WHO’S WHO IN WWII

DON ADAMS Hollywood and TV Actor (Get Smart) – Born as Donald James Yarmy. Served in U.S. Marines in World War II, contracted malaria during Guadalcanal campaign

JOHN AGAR (1921-2002) Hollywood and TV Actor (F Troop) - He served for three years as a physical training instructor with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

EDDIE ALBERT (Edward Albert Heimberger) (1908-) Hollywood and TV actor (Green Acres). He was the Lieutenant and Coxswain of a Navy Landing Craft during the invasion of Tarawa in November 1943, making numerous trips to the beach rescuing stranded Marines who had been blown out of the water during the first wave. His trips were all conducted under heavy shelling and machine gun fire. He received a Navy Cross for his efforts.

JAMES ARNESS (1923 - ) Hollywood and TV Actor (Gunsmoke). He entered college just as World War II began and dreamed of being a naval aviator. It seemed as if every night his fraternity was having a party to send off a brother to the service. Young Arness got his interview with a naval flight program officer, but his hopes vanished as he was informed that his six foot seven inch height disqualified him automatically. He wrote his draft board asking that they call him up as soon as possible and so he ended up as a private in the famed Third Infantry Division where he earned a Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Because of his stature, he was chosen to be first off the landing craft (to test the depth of the water) when his division landed at Anzio, Italy. He was subsequently wounded by enemy machine gun fire and spent eighteen months recovering in overseas and stateside hospitals.

GENE AUTRY (1907- ) Hollywood actor and singer. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and became Sgt. Gene Autry. During the war, he ferried fuel, ammunition, and arms in the China-India-Burma theater of war and flew over the Himalayas, the hazardous air route known as “The Hump.â€
