Sen. John McCain on Tuesday urged all Americans to join him in congratulating Sen. Barack Obama on his projected victory in the presidential election.
"I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face," McCain said before his supporters in Phoenix, Arizona.
"Today, I was a candidate for the highest office in the country I love so much, and tonight, I remain her servant," he said.

FUCK! I didn't care for either of them, but McCain was the best of the worst. Pray for the next 4 years. Let's hope McCain and the now Democrat controlled House & Senate don't take us down the path of Socialism and Wimpism..

Concur, but where was that eloquence during his campaigning? Up until his concession speech, he's been robotic and scripted!RTO wrote:I thought his concession speech was a class act.
He took the high road and I'm proud to stand up and say I voted for him.

All that tells me is that McCain was not comfortable with what his writers had him doing during the campaign but did not put his foot down. He should have stood up and said something.BruteForce wrote:Concur, but where was that eloquence during his campaigning? Mccain is a good dude but he let his people fuck up his campaign. That and choosing Palin killed it for him. I'm not even sure if Palin was HIS choice or the choice of someone pulling some string in a back room.

Agreed on all counts. I believe his handlers screwed it up for him. Palin seemed scripted as well. I just can't believe she's as dumb as she appeared to be.hit_it wrote: All that tells me is that McCain was not comfortable with what his writers had him doing during the campaign but did not put his foot down. Oh well. No sense is grieving for what's happened. I'm now hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst. :)

I don't think the Repubs had anyone who could have beat the O-man this year. Their bench was WEAK.TC204 wrote:

The problem with the McCain campaign was McCain. He's the Bob Dole of 2008.
Yup! Romney would have done better.
Insert a statement about hindsight here!
As far as McCain goes, he's made a career by bending conservatives over the table, then pathetically taking his little pat on the head from Teddy Kennedy. A Republican can't win without conservatives. Republican turnout was piss-poor all over the country. Something tells me it was conservatives staying home because they didn't think McCain would be any better than Obama.
Anyways, that's my expert analysis and I'm sticking to it. Now that I've solved the world's problems, I think I'll go have a steak.

As of this posting the total votes casted and counted were:
Obama 63,809,261 (53%)
McCain 56,361,250 (46%)
with 98% of Precincts reporting. Most of the remainder are Oregon (full mail-in ballots, if I remember right) and Washington (mostly mail-in ballots).
That's a total of 120,170,511 votes. U.S. Census estimates about 305,585,854 total people in the U.S. which makes for about 39% population-wide voter turn-out (not counting the last precincts and the 1% of third-party votes). I'd say that's a hell of a voter turnout.
By the way, I'm a full supporter of the Electoral College system.
