Hurricane IKE
Its gunna hit Corpus...no wait...Brownsville, no wait....Matagorda...no wait...Galveston....no wait....Port OConnor....no wait....Palacios, WHAT thee fucking fuck! Zillions of dollars in technology, weatherologist pontificating, and all of this just adds to the hysteria to the herds of sheep who are going fucking nuts up and down the coast of Texas. My wife being a veteran of numerous events such as this merely said..."we good"? I mumbled...."sure". Got food, got water, got guns....we good. Neighbors up and down the street coming to me (most dont like me because I am....eh-hem.....a gun totin freak in a neighborhood of blue blood soft bellied liberals) asking...
Neighbors: You staying?
Me: :?
Neighbors: Would you keep an eye on my place?
Me: Yup.
Neighbors: Need anything?
Me: More body bags.....
Neighbors:
My son asked me, what will you do if we get looters in the neighborhood? I smiled and said....stack em up like cord wood. POOOOOYAH! But, life aint that good is it!

Puerto Rico... '96

I was in Juana Diaz for 8 weeks, doing Spanish Immersion training... practicing my spanish linguistic skills on the locals down there... when this little nasty fucking storm came marching through.
The barracks on Ft. Allen down there, are old, and rickety, but they did not collapse.
There was about 18 of us down there... and we had enough rum to float a boat with.
Nothing like sitting in the breezeway, watching 120 mph winds throw coconuts like canonballs... listening to Buffet, getting shitty on Bacardi Anejo...
It was interesting, to say the least. We worked our ASSES off afterwards though...

I've lived in FL most of my life, and have only been through one direct-impact hurricane, Charlie, about three years ago. It was awesome, and I swear, extremely relaxing. My fence blew away, and my power was out for 2 weeks; but other than that, no real damage. It was the coolest thing I've ever seen from nature.Silverback wrote:I don't know why but I have always loved storms. I would like nothing better than to sit through a hurricane. Maybe I am crazy...

Not that we get hurricanes or much of anything out here (west), but that's why I have an RV, always loaded with water and a full tank of fuel, and an extra 5400 watt generator and at least 20 gallons of fuel available.Baseplate wrote:Hurricaines themselves are fucking awesome its the spin off tonadoes and no electricity or water for a week after that sucks
Now, if a tornado comes along, I'm screwed, as all that gear is outside.. :?

My mother is in Houston. She's got a full tank of gas, extra cash, a loaded shot-gun and plenty of Corona Extra beer.
I do hope this just blows over...
