My bad. I had a cousin in the legion that was killed at Dien Bien Phu and may have mixed up the battles.

I was under the impression that the Marines also fought at Dien Bien Phu in the late 60s but may have mixed the name on this issue.
Khe Sanh was the siege I think you are referring to.

He might be referring to Hue City

Scuba bubble and jump wings would too....although not the "coveted" gold jump wings.
Ah yes, forgot about the bubble. Though if I'm not mistaken, the "lead sled" isn't authorized either, just the standard Army jump wings in its place.

Isn't the "lead sled" the same as normal Army jump wings?

We have a CSM in our BCT that wears the N co 173rd combat scroll, I am pretty sure it is not authorized but I don't think anyone is going to tell him to take it off

Kind of like carrying an AK instead of the "unreliable" M4.

My 1SG in Vicenza back in 83 wore a marine patch. He was Ranger qualified and while a Marine in Nam was in the fight at Dien Bien Phu which left him one of 11 survivors. He was definitely not a poser. They say that the body count in front of his smoking M60 was 200 but that’s what they say….
Did the Americans fight another battle at Dien Bien Phu? I know French Paratroops and the Foreign Legion did in the 50's.

We may have not been on the ground (intentionally), but Americans were flying the Boxcars and Gooney Birds that were flying in supplies to the Frogs.

My bad I confused it with Khe Sanh. See a few posts down from my post.
