Britain says Prince Harry deployed in Afghanistan

LONDON (Reuters) - Prince Harry, third in line to the British throne, has been secretly serving as a combat soldier on the front lines in Afghanistan for 2-1/2 months, the Ministry of Defence said on Thursday.

Well the picture of him smiling behing a crew served weapon shows that he is enjoying himself. But for what it's worth at least he's in it now.

Good! I thought it was all sorts of bullshit when they basically told his unit "well, you're going to be deploying a PL short. Sucks to be you."

50mm machine gun, eh? Jack-asses. It's one thing to mistake a weapon system's nomenclature, but even a civilian should be able to tell the difference between 0.50 inches and 50mm.

No, his higher ups are giant pussies. Now that everyone knows that he's in country, he's getting pulled out.

Chief of the Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup, in consultation with head of the Army, General Sir Richard Dannatt, had taken the final decision to withdraw Harry immediately, the statement said.

"This decision has been taken primarily on the basis that the worldwide media coverage of Prince Harry in Afghanistan could impact on the security of those who are deployed there, as well as the risks to him as an individual soldier," it added.

I semi agree with the decision to pull him. It is not fair to the men he commands if every night 50 Taliban attack his position trying to take the Holy Grail of hostages.

I tend to agree you, however, the idea of being able to pull 50 mofos into the kill zone every night sounds mighty appealing

Don't forget about the withering indirect fire that the enemy is capable of. Not all attacks are direct and man to man.

Exactly. My last time in the Stan we had rockets hit within the wire all the time. His troops would have been subjected to a much greater level of fire on the base camp once his location was known. I would not want my son or daughter at a higher risk because of the identity of their PL.

Too bad the damn media had to leak it. Why is it always the media? I can't think of anything war-related they haven't fucked up... pardon my French, Rangers.

I like the video clip of him wearing a baseball cap wioth the American Flag on it. The he goes on to say something along the line of... Now that the Americans are here, we are good to go.
