Time To Fight? Or Earn A Shot?

Post by DeterminedToBe »

I was told today by my ARMY recruiter that because I will probably have to see a specialist to get clearance for a broken pelvis from 5 years ago, and also because I will need a moral waiver for a couple fights and a bb gun charge from more than 10 years ago, THAT I can not get an 18xray contract OR a Ranger contract. I was told I will have to go into the infantry and prove myself before I can get a shot.

Now I have done TONS of searching, and used to search button, what i've come up with is that once in the infantry, it is VERY DIFFICULT to get a shot at Ranger School if it was not in the contract.

Is my recruiter being honest with me? That because of my injuries and moral waiver I can't get the special forces or the Ranger contract? Or should I fight for my cause, and agree to nothing less than what I want? Im not sure if he's being honest that I can't get these contracts for these reasons because in everything I read you guys urge every DEP to fight for his contract.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I did read the rules, all I see is the sticky about not PM'ing SFC Hit_It...Im very cautious not to make any wrong moves on this board as I truly respect the way you guy run it. Im not sure what I did wrong but will do my best to find out. Whatever it is I assure you it will not happen again. I'm Sorry.

I can't help you with the "moral waiver" question, (God knows I'm lucky they didn't find out about my incident involving a convent of nuns, a dozen cats, and a 5 gallon pail of queso dip..ah, well.. nevermind about that ..)

All of your questions concerning medical conditions are in this publication. http://www.army.mil/usapa/epubs/pdf/r40_501.pdf

If you think they are stonewalling you, show them their own regulation and see what they say. Or try another recruiter. There will always be someone who will say "yes" and give you a waiver for anything. The question is at what point will another guy say "They fucked up and never should have given you the waiver".

Or you could just.... read the fucking stickies in the medical issues section!...

Having said that, he is full of shit that it is hard to get Ranger school
without it being in your contract. I am living proof of that. What you want (Opt. 40) is VERY different than Ranger school. Since I was never in Batt. I will merely echo what I've always been taught and what my brothers on here say quite often,

"The scroll is a WAY OF LIFE!"

In other words, Ranger school is exactly that, a school. Many people from Infantry units, etc. go to the suck and graduate to become Ranger qualified, which is different from being "born and raised" a Ranger in Batt. and then attending the school.

Take the good Doc's advice as well! Good luck regardless! I am sure there will be more along the way to help set you straight.

Hope that helps clear some shit up for you!
Thank you Rangers for your input, its greatly appreciated. Ranger Sleepy Doc, I regret that my post seemed as if I didn't read the stickies in the forum, I assure you I have and while I partially answered my own questions there were specifications of it which none of the stickies touched upon.
Ranger JLTW, I was most certainly under the impression that someone with an infantry MOS would be hard-pressed to get their shot at RIP. Thank you for clearing that up for me, I would much rather serve in the Ranger Battalion as opposed to wearing the scroll and tab and serving with an infantry unit. Were you the only Ranger in your platoon? I would assume anyone in an infantry unit with the Ranger tab would be looked upon as 'the shit' basically.(In a great way ofcourse) ;o)

My son also went into the Army with only an 11X contract like Wazzle's son. He was given the oppourtunity to volunteer for Airborne School & RIP while in Infantry School. He is now a SGT in 3rd Batt.
