How to become a Ranger medic
Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my post. Let me start with a little about me, followed by questions about what I want to achieve serving in the strongest military in the world.
Background
I’m currently in the process of putting together a warrant officer packet to enter the aviation side of the Army. Ideally I would like to fly an Apache, but I understand there can be a big difference between what you want, and what you get in the military. I take my AFAST (Alternate Flight Aptitude Selection Test) three weeks from today, followed by my flight physical and submission of my warrant officer packet.
I initially went in to talk to my recruiter about being either a combat medic, or being a helo pilot. He asked if I thought about being a Ranger medic, and of course I said hell yeah. I have always dreamed of being a Ranger / Navy Seal, but never looked into the requirements of either. I looked into both being a pilot / Ranger and decided to put in a warrant officer packet to fly initially.
I’ve gone to MEPS to take my ASVAB (80 AFQT, 118 GT), and passed my physical and airborne physical, but haven’t signed anything. I figured I can become a Ranger medic if I fail my flight physical, or don’t get accepted. I have been physically training myself as if I’m going into the RIP, (according to Ranger training guides I’ve found) so I can ship out to basic ASAP if I don’t get accepted as a WO.
I have one major law violation I’m worried about, but my recruiter said it isn’t a problem for putting in my WO packet (I don’t know if it differs being a Ranger, but I know both require a top secret clearance). In June 2003, I was charged with felony evasion, and reckless driving (I swear it wasn’t me!). I was only convicted of a misdemeanor because I looked somewhat guilty, but they didn’t have a solid case. It falls under a misdemeanor my recruiter found out after doing some searching, (it can differ if you’re initially charged with a worse crime) and said it just requires a waiver.
Questions
1. Is my run-in with the law going to disqualify me from a Ranger medic contract? I’ve only had one speeding ticket, and 2 parking tickets since then (if that matters).
2. I want to be a combat medic, airborne, and would like to have the ranger tab. I’m a little confused on what I would want my contract to say. I know they have an 91W (Medical specialist) Option 40, is this the same AIT as regular medics with the option of being a Ranger? Does this also mean that I won’t be airborne? I’ve done a lot of reading on this topic, and can’t find an answer applying towards the Ranger/medic part.
3. I’ve found some misleading information on Option 40 contracts. Does this mean I get a shot in RIP, and possibly nothing else, or am I “guaranteed a shot to join the ranks of the 75th Ranger Regimentâ€

What is the most proper form of addressing a higher ranking person if it's not sir? Maybe it's civilian ignorance, but sir is more of a respectful term than a form of patronizing someone. Do I just address them by their title, or what's the correct way in the service?

that is some patronizing bullshit on your part. go reread the rules. as far as I'm concerned, that's stike 2.Justin_SoCal wrote:Damn, that's so me. I can do 3 push ups, but I'm really good at eating twinkies. Do you think I can be a Ranger?
and where did you find out that pilots and Rangers need Top Secret clearences?

I mean this in no disrespect, but that is not patronizing anyone but myself. The definition of patronize by Merriam-Webster.com is as follows:
2 : to adopt an air of condescension toward
To break this down further, condescension or condescend is defined as:
2 : to assume an air of superiority
As stated in my post, I'm making fun of myself, and my hypothetical appreciation for twinkies. I am not making a patronizing mark about rangers, but more of a (bad) joke about myself.
As far as reading the rules. I have tried my best to due so. This is the first forum I've been a member of, and I didn't know what stickys where until recently.
As far as the security clearances, I am mistaken about the clearance for being a Ranger. I read this post here and thought it was the same type of clearance needed as a warrant officer pilot. Post:
viewtopic.php?p=372840&highlight=ranger ... nce#372840
After doing some research on my own, to find info showing what my recruiter told me about having a top secret security clearance, I found out he was wrong (recruiters wrong/lie, never! (yes, I am patronizing a my recruiter, forgive me)). Here is the link I found that states you need a secret security clearance:
http://www.usarec.army.mil/hq/warrant/
I do not mean to step on the toes of anyone due to my lack of knowledge of forums, or military incite, but I am in the process of researching them in depth.
