MEPS report

Post by Eight Changes »

Rangers, I have just returned from MEPS.

Everything is go, I am set to enter as E3 and I have Airborne qualified in my medical report, however they were not able to offer me a contract yet.

As it turns out I will require an age exception in order to secure the 18x contract (I missed the age cutoff by less than two months) and the exception did not come back either way before the control desk shut down.

In the mean time they were not able to offer me any other jobs even close to what I wanted.

Nada.

The only OPT40 they came back with was Food Services Specialist

I know someone has to cook for the Rangers, but that's not what I had in mind.

So now I am playing the waiting game, to see if SF will allow the age exception, and if they don't, my recruiter is saying something like, "Option 40 may be asking a bit too much right now".

Not cool.

If my 18x is denied I would be all over 13f or 11b with OPT40.

The good news is that the recruiter needs me to sign in order to make his two for the month, so I know he'll be trying. I just don't want him give a line of BS just so I'll sign.

He said something like,"You can always go to the Rangers anytime you want" and "SF recruiters come by every week, you can drop papers for it as soon as you hit the first duty station". I am a bit skeptical of those statements right now. I have read on this site and elsewhere too many times "get it in writing", and that sounds like good advice to me.

One thing I have read is that if you get ABN in the contract, while at Airborne school you can volunteer for Ranger, and that this is one of the only times you can easily do that. So, unless that information is incorrect, it looks like that will be my last resort.

That is all I have to report at this time.

Once again, thank you Rangers.

Hi, Seems to me your saying that Rangers will take you or anyone anytime but have to wait for something as special as 18X. I hope you remember that neither of these are a guarantee not even the cook job. Young studs bow out and go worldwide all the time and you want to try it even with being over the age limit. Goodluck. I really think you will need it

I apologize if it sounded that way. Maybe I should have posted this as just a continuation of my introduction thread.

I understand that Rangers are an elite unit and that an OPT 40 contract is not a guarantee of anything but a chance to prove myself worthy.

My first choice is the 18x contract, and my second an OPT40 with a combat MOS. The cook job had basic at Jackson, and to be completely honest, even though I would get to do Ranger training, a cook job is just not for me.

I in no way think that the Rangers will take anyone at anytime, and I really don't think that it would be easier to pass RIP than SF selection (based entirely on what I have read and heard)

This is meant as nothing more than a continuation of my previous introduction, and status report of my current situation.

I do appreciate your wishes of luck for me, but as in everything, I think luck is something one makes for oneself through hard work and dedication.

SF is my ultimate goal, but I know that Ranger training would be a huge benefit to me in every possible way. The only reason I chose 18x #1 on my list was as the most direct route to my goal. I know that does not necessarily make it the best.

Again, Rangers, thank you for your time and your service.

I think you will find your age waiver approved either today or Monday.

Being as this should be processing Saurday and Monday should be mission day.

That want you signed for that extra number. Just be patient.

Absolutly agree. Have you looked at Civil Affairs / Psychological Operations? Possibly an appropriate communications skill? We can't all be door kickers (we can't?).

Hi, Eight Changes I would like to leave you with something that the guest speaker said at my sons RIP graduation. "Everyone talks about the Green Berets and a great compliment to the U.S. Army they are." "I have spent many years as a ArmyRanger and have always wondered where the Green Berets would be rightnow without John Wayne." "Yes, they are a great force and one to be very proud of. " "There are over 9,000 Green Berets in the U.S. Army but let me tell, there are only 2500 Airborne Rangers in the U.S.Army and do not underestimate these soldiers in front of yo today." "The Special Forces Green Berets DO want the Best that the Unitwed States caN PROVIDE BUT the 75th Ranger Reginment ONLY wants THE BEST OF THE BEST. I might not have got this perfect word for word but sure left me with the feeling that my son could have done none better.

Rangers,

The age waiver has been denied.

I will exhaust all other possibilities in pursuit of my goal.

Some of the best chow I ever had was prepared by Ranger Cooks.

Read that sentence again, emphasis on Ranger.
