Introduction

Post by Ranger Ron »

Greetings! I am an "OLD" Ranger. I graduated in Ranger Class 3-70 in the fall of 1969. Upon arrival in Vietnam I was assigned to I Co., 75th Inf. attached to the Big Red One. I served in that LRRP unit until the 1st was pulled out of Vietnam. I then was transferred to the 25th Div. The Ranger company was full so I had to go to a line unit. I served there until I came back to the world and home. The most noteworthy of my year was the invasion of Cambodia. Spent a month or so there.

I am wondering about the functionality of the Ranger Gear Store. I have been trying to order for over a month and can not get the order to go and I can get no response from Milspec. Anyone know the status of them.

The Ranger Quartermaster is closed. Actually, it is being sold, so orders are not being taken. Welcome to the site.

Welcome Ole man..and pull up a chair. (shake and Bake) I haven't heard that in a while and it's kinda of funny, because the Army is going back to it (kinda). I'm sure you'll enjoy the site.

Yes, a "Shake and Bake". I was drafted about 6 months after I graduated from college. Lucked out and went to Ft. Ord, CA for basic and then infantry AIT. Since I found myself in the Infantry I decided a stalling tactic might be the best course. Volunteered for NCO school and choose Ranger school instead of OJT after NCO school. Two thoughts, I would be E-6 instead of E-5 and and might just learn something that could keep me alive. As it turned out, I made E-6 out of NCO school but went the Ranger school anyway. Very proud I did.

Also, thanks for the info on the store. I was rather sure it must be out of business or would be shortly doing business that way. I would think the leadership might want to pass that news along in the newsletter or webb site so members don't get frustrated trying to get gear.

I had to chuckle while reading the proceedures for registering and being validated for the site. Reminded me of my arrival at my unit in 25th Div. when I left the Ranger Co. When I arrived in the firebase, I met the Bn Commander. His very first question was, "Did you earn that Ranger Tab or did you just think it would be cool to wear it?" Later he apologized and said he just hadn't seen too many NCO Rangers.
