New Army PT drills and exercises?

Post by Mother_Benning »

I seem to remember some weird ass new drills and exercises that were supposed to take the place of stretching during group PT. This was many years ago, but when I looked through the latest FM 21-20, I don't see them. Did they not get approved, or is Big Army still making up their mind?

Anyone got a link or power point of the drills I am talking about? Sorry if I am being vague, but I did not pay too much attention to them at the time.

Reps like the Lunger, the 8 Count Pushup, the Turn and Bounce, the Mountain Climber, etc. all went the way of the Dodo because of the injury they could cause. I think you'd need a PT book from around 87 - 90 or so to find those old things.

I think I know what you are talking about. There was shit like the wood chopper, and other gay looking warmups. Dynamic stretching. I had a pamphlet that we used for that in Korea, but I think I got rid of that thing when we didn't have to do that shit anymore.

Ranger Mother_Benning,

What you are asking about is here and more:

***** Below is a PDF, but you can go to your friendly neighborhood recruiter and get a laminated, quality booklet called the "Pocket Guide" (Pocket Physical Training Guide). This "specifically" has the 'weird ass new drills and exercises that were supposed to take the place of stretching during group PT' that you ask about:

Pocket Version
Video and Guides (on http://www.armydep.com)

* As you will notice, they are approved specifically for TRADOC use in a specific condition. Most probably they will slightly evolve into FM 3-22.20.

If you have any questions, PM:)

(Hope this helps)
