Packing List For OSUT

Post by ActiveDarwinism »

I did a search for this, and didn't immediately see anything directly addressing this. I'd search more, but I have to go to my dad's and spend time with him, and he doesn't have a computer. So I figured I might as well list some questions I have about what to bring to OSUT, and hope some others share my questions.

1) I'm a young kid, and get razor burn like a stripper with herpes when I shave. Is it allowed to bring your own high-speed razor and shaving cream to OSUT with you? Or if you do will they make you toss your shit away and buy stuff from the PX?

2) It says bring two sets of clothes, two towels, toiletries, etc. Should I really bring all this shit? Or will I be okay with a bar of soap, a towel, and the clothes on my back?

3) I bought a book to read during the shipping/reception. Should I even bother to bring it with?

4) I was going to bring a copy of The Ranger Handbook with me to OSUT. Will I catch hell for it?

5) How long do you wait in reception before they fit you for all your shit, and let you buy toiletries?

6) I heard they didn't let you PT during reception. Is this true, or can I find ways to do it?

7) Do you pay for anything with cash while in reception(a.k.a. should I bring any)?

8) Is there anything else you suggest I bring/don't bring?

Thats about it. Hope they help other DEPs as well. Sorry if those answers are really obviously listed, I just don't have the time to find them. Thank you in advance for your time, and sorry if I'm stepping on my dick asking them.

Thank you very much again Rangers, Veterans and other servicemembers.

Bring what the list tellsyou to. They tell you to bring it for a reason.

3) I bought a book to read during the shipping/reception. Should I even bother to bring it with?
While you are at reception I suggest you focus on why you are there don't bring any distractions.

4) I was going to bring a copy of The Ranger Handbook with me to OSUT. Will I catch hell for it?
Yes Bring it. Then you will not have to worry about time for extra PT.

5) How long do you wait in reception before they fit you for all your shit, and let you buy toiletries?
Don't worry about it. The Army will take care of your needs. Just focus on the task at hand.

6) I heard they didn't let you PT during reception. Is this true, or can I find ways to do it?
See answer to question 4

7) Do you pay for anything with cash while in reception(a.k.a. should I bring any)?
When I went through if I remember correectly the list my recruiter gave me said no more than $20.00 don't know if it has changed since then. To be honest I didn't need all of it.

8) Is there anything else you suggest I bring/don't bring? Bring your head on straight. Only focus on what you need to. Don't sweat the small shit.

Thats about it. Hope they help other DEPs as well. Sorry if those answers are really obviously listed, I just don't have the time to find them. Thank you in advance for your time, and sorry if I'm stepping on my dick asking them.
